Skajme
As we all know the GTI has different ball joints to a standard Lupo and all the 3rd party ones never fit because they just give you standard ones. Well I was on buycarparts just having a look and noticed these https://www.buycarparts.co.uk/rts/7883717 From the picture they looked like GTI ones so I figured for the price I'd just have a go and see, no harm done if they were the wrong ones...Well it arrived and they are identical to the GTI ball joints. Got a brand new VW one for comparison so here's a few pictures comparing them. Definitely handy seeing as the OEM one's are a pain in the arse to get hold of! jon_273
Does anyone have a picture of a normal one for comparison?
Pete
They’re much shorter, there is a build thread on here with a blue gti and it shows a lupo gti and a normal lupo one.

Nathan94
Sorry for the resurrection, but thanks for sharing! I've just received my two, left and right but they look identical even though left and right have different part numbers, can anyone confirm if the ball joints are exactly the same either side? I can't check at the moment as the car is in the shop till the end of Jan, so want to make sure it's right for when I get it back 😊

Should be different, LH one below (non gti BJ's) is Left side - joint slightly forward off centre right hand side mirror of LH
matty by
Sorry for the resurrection (again). I have bought some ball joints after reading this thread. i opened them up today to find they are quite different from what has come off. i was under the impression that the longer bases were for the GTI. but the bases on these new ones seem a longer than the ones i took off. any information on this would be great. Thanks Edited April 11, 2019 by matty by
Skajme
Your old ones are not GTI ball joints, they look like they have been replaced at some point with standard ones. The new ones are the right size!

cj1
Hello, ordered from the link which I thought was both sides? only one arrived but doesn’t look right, the middle hole isn’t long enough? wondering where people are getting ball joints for a gti from please?
mk2
Yeah, @Rich might be able to confirm... I ordered some recently for my SDI (regular, not GTi ball joints), and what turned up were exactly like the left one in @matty by's pic. And when I did a part number lookup, it said that they were the standard fitment for Polo 6N flavour. So maybe regular Polo 6N ball joints are the same as for Lupo GTi. There's no hole. And the thread is M12, not M10. The cone is also bigger for GTi.

Rich
So I need to find a 6n ball joint and a GTi ball joint and compare ?
mk2
No, because you already know the answer
Tripod
Oh look, I'm talking to myself on the other ball joint thread. See my answer on that one for more info. Got mine on Ebay but messaged first to make sure I was getting exactly what was listed.
Rich
I got mine from vw but then I haven't used it since I fitted them years ago.
mk2
Took some pics- comparing a 9N and a 6X... I don't have a gti ball joint, but I can take some measurements and we can compare on here?
Tripod
Is the lower arm the same on the 6n2? And they maybe make up any other difference in all 3 with the ball joint?
mk2
Yeah, the arms are different- the inner bit where the bushes are. The ball joint end is the the exact same on all.
Skajme
The part numbers on the 9N ball joints are 6Q0 407 365M and 6Q0 407 366M Which is very similar to the Lupo Gti part numbers of 6E0 407 365 and 6E0 407 366 Although admittedly i'm no expert on the part numbers and what each letter/number represents, would this not suggest that they are pretty much one and the same? They do look identical to me
mk2
If anyone has an old gti ball joint and a set of calipers, can we do some measuring? We might be onto something here that'll help gti owners the world over...
