Mitchell
just sitting thinking what were the influences in my early days to want a vw, and i've came up with a few really.1. beastie boys and the hip hop scene in general in the 80's everyone was rocking a vw badge on a chain round there neck with a puffy def jam jacket on, i even remember an article in a main newspaper about the volkswagen garages struggling to keep up with demand for customers that had had grille badges stolen, anyway i was around 13.2. car theft was rife in the late 80's early 90's and i remember seeing quite a few mk1 gti's and mk2 gti's being chased or driven at really high speeds by car thieves and thinking "how fast do they go" baring in mind all i'd been used to being in with parents was mk1/2 escorts and toyota celicas of the time.3. my best mates grandad had a fastback in miami blue from me being 5 to 17 he had that car and he washed it every sat or sunday at the door without fail and i remember thinking how there was nothing else like it.so yeh early memories of dub in the blud . electricpanda
1. My mate had a Mk2 golf with a 2.8 Audi engine and I loved it.2. As above but he had a Rado VR6.3. Going to VW Festival a few years ago and seeing all the cars and the atmosphere and realising no other scene is anywhere near as good. treblet
I've always loved dubs, ever since I was a kid I always wanted a dub, and much to my disappointment my parents would never buy one, so when I was old enough I got one of my own...and then another one of my own! andyp
Saw a burgundy mark one for sale on the side of the road whilst i was learning to drive, was still there and i liked it so got it. Kept it for a year, sold it for what i bought it for, then bought a mk2 gti, had that for ages, but not really into the scene as such, then slight off with a laguna but still had the mk2 as it was my then gf's, got slowly more into shows etc, got the loop when split up and jobs a good un. Unheard
Getting my Lupo was nothing to do with liking VW. The Lupo was the best really small car i could find It had the same appeal to me as my mini that i was replacing. kenzie
I used to work at a garage at weekends when I was school which was full of all sorts of VAG equipment, from aair cooled to water cooled, VW to NSU's, then all the newer stuff, which had the most appeal to me. I remember being in my local dealership when the Lupo was first released, there was a yellow sport in the workshop and I was all over it The more time I spend around them the more I'm drawn to them. simpo
When I was 18 I wanted a car that was relatively fast and affordable to buy, run and insure. The sport fitted the description at the time.

DarkStryder360
wanted a Polo, but when I went to see one, it was shocking. First impressions count. Then the next was the Lupo (was always weary as it was stereotyped as a womans car)And parents were always pro-vw (now they go for Jap though :|)So glad I did because of the people I have met and the whole scene is amazing. AndyW
I also didn't buy my car as it was a VW, bought it as just fell in love with the Lupo GTI when I first saw it at a motorshow. My Dad had a Mk1 Audi S3 at the time and when I saw the black GTI at the show I just had to have one.I'd be just as likely to have another VW as not, I'll just have whatever I fancy, which at the moment is an Abarth 500. Family has a history of VW's, but a few Alfas and Audi's too. Can't say that I'm that much into the 'dub scene', I love all cars whatever the make (ok, perhaps not all), and have never felt particularly compelled to stick with one camp. heartagram
Originally I wanted a classic Mini but couldn't find a good one for good money. The only other car I really liked was the lass a couple of doors down had a Polo 2F breadvan. I thought it looked cool, boxy lines of it and I just thought it was cool how it looked like an estate but only had 2 doors. So ended up buying a red 1.0L coupe and since then just always wanted Volkswagens. Went to see a few other cars and there okay, but Volkswagens just seem to have a quality about them. Get into an old jap car and it looks so dated, ugly and cheap. Get into a old Volkswagen and its still a nice place to be.

nfbr
I wanted a lupo as my first car but couldn't afford one so looked at mk1 1-litre arosas instead. After being quoted almost twice as much insurance on an arosa as on a 1.4 clio, I settled with a 92 clio for 8 months. I then sold the car off as it was becoming a bit of a bugger to keep running and costing a fair bit in fuel. I then bought a 1.9 Turbo Diesel Peugeot 306, Handled great but every time I tried to modify it, You couldn't remove parts, Only break them off ! After another 8 months with that I finally bought myself a lupo 1.4 tdi in black. Did a fair few things with it. Went to my first VW show and really enjoyed it ! I started going to as many VW shows as I could, Met lots of really cool people from club lupo and had a shït load of fun. The VW scene wasn't like what all the other modified car scenes were like! It was much better, More relaxed with a real friendly atmosphere and far less Anti-Social types involved. After 3 years ish of owning the lupo I ran into a bit of bad luck, Someone ran into the rear o/s quarter of my lupo, then a few weeks later my Jack colapsed on me and made the damage even worse. I decided I had to sell and that my luck with little lupo had ran out. I sold up and bought myself an exciting new Suzuki Swift Sport... 1600 vvt engine with a really good price tag for a brand new car! Unfortunately it was at this point that I found out other cars just don't have the things about them that the lupo had which kept me loyal for so long. The thrill of owning a brand new car was good and it was interesting to go to a few of the Jap car meets, but it just wasn't right. The swift covered 3500 miles in nine months! The thing with the swift was that I just didn't get that feeling of "Oh I wanna go for a quick blast around the Pennine hills" So that was why I sold it. I bought myself a 2005 Bora TDI, have spent a fair bit getting it how I want it to be and I must say, I'm happy with my car again! The only two cars out of the five I've had that I've been fully happy and content with have been my Lupo TDI and my Bora TDI . I've done 10,000 miles in the 6 and a half Months that I've owned the Bora!Needless to say, My next car will probably be another Volkswagen. LiamD
It started for me back in 97(ish) when I started r/c car racing, and one of the guys there had a classic 90s brit look mk2 gti. Capri green, big bumpers, 17" Kosei Snipers... looked cool as! Then I also made friends with Steve through the same hobby, who rocks the nugget yellow Corrado 20vt, but at the time had an ABF Mk2... he started taking me to car shows and then at my first dub show (which I can't even remember) I discovered what a Polo G40 was. Few months later I was about to do my driving test and started looking a for a Lupo, just cos they were a bit different and there wasn't any modified ones round where I lived until I did mine. Once I grew out of the Lupo, I wanted to own the VWs I always wanted, hence buying a Rado and now a G40.
Amber
Family. They swear by German cars. My mum and dad have had a couple of audis and my sisters first car was a mk1 golf. No one went back from there onwards really.
Jowey
Used to be obsessed with the Herbie films ( I wore out 3 tapes)then one turn when we were in the newsagents my Mum said I could have a magazine and instead of buying the Beano or whatever I picked up a copy of Volksworld because it had a 'Herbie on the front' hours of flicking through that one magazine and watching Herbie have really made me connect with the character and lines of the older VW'salso really liked classic minis in my teens, particularly the early minis with awesome wide minilites and big arches. from this i started thinking about other nana spec cars that you could amke look agressive with wide wheels Metro and mk2 Polo square being the 2 I thought about the most.I like my Brit' classics: and would like to resto mod: a Jagaur MkII, an Austin Mini and Morris minor at some point but other than that the Early VW's maybe a late Passat or another Lupo are the only things i can see myself driving

I remember that!! our golf had 3 nicked in one summer....my dad gave up buying replacements in the end I got into dubs through the old man really. I remember his first one which was a swallow tail LS, it was light metallic green with the round dialed dash. he wishes he kept it now He also taught me to drive in his mk2 jetta GTi which i loved, and bought one my self some years latter When i first got my craving to modify a dub when i bought my first ever car mag, with my own paper round money It was a Volkswagen Audi Car mag with a 4page special...in colour!!!of the Austrian GTi annual treffen, which i still have Edited November 16, 2008 by vworks41
jamiea7x
was a lupo gti that got me into it, i saw one in glasgow wen i was in the lookout for a new carstartedlooking into them but decided it was too dear to insure so i got the sport instead twas the only other small car i would have at the time, and still pretty much is but from owning the lupo it has got me into vw's in general, although im still partial to a bit of jdm yo! Mouse_GTI
When saving for my 1st car I was set on a Mk5 Fiesta Zetec-S, as I shared a 1.25 zetec with my mum. Then I looked at rivals and saw the 106 GTI and Polo GTI. Overall I liked the Polo the best and the fact it was rare and mega-specced. My mate got a Mk3 Polo GT and we sort of all got into Dubs from then onward
