What performance cars have you overtaken?

I still note that the original poster hasn't even attempted to back up his original post with any form of hard data, obviously because the original claim was pure fantasy, but you know, I thought he might try anyway.

On the one hand, today I whizzed past a lovely Slate Grey Mk5 Golf R32 on the A449 between Kiddy and Worcester, I literally watched him disappear in my rear view mirror. Clearly this 'on the fly' event proves that a 125bhp Lupo GTI can 'have' a 246bhp Golf R32. wink.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

The bit I left out was 15 minutes earlier I had a short tussle with a V5 engined Passat and lost, badly. Those really shift!

hmm I may have seen the very same Golf R32 Possibly (well it was slate grey! which incidently if I ever get an R32 will be the colour I aim for!). I also overtook it on a duel-carraigeway but the A50 between derby and stoke... only doing the national limit. These lupo sports you know... who needs an R32? lol

Yeah... who needs a powerfull car, when you can have a moderate car which is "on the fly"

I'm quite tempted to install an "on the fly" button to my works van, so that i can blitz down the outside lane every day on my way to work in an effort to overtake the traffic

LOL i have never heard so much crap! The lupo might be nippy to 60 but thats about it. In an Ideal world the lupo gti needs around 180bhp and then it would be a tool for dispatching performance cars! I really like the idea of putting the 1.8turbo engine in the lupo. Or a civic type R lump. Nothing to heavy and with lots of go.

The lupo gti is good for low 20's 0-100. say around 23seconds if i remember correctly

Right just off the top of my head:

audi tt 225bhp 16 seconds.

Mini cooper S Low 20's

Seat Leon Cupra R 16 seconds

Honda Civic Type R 16 seconds

Honda Prelude 2.2 16 seconds

Honda S2000 14.5 seconds

Ford Focus RS 15.

Carrera 4s 12seconds

BMW M5 10 seconds

Enzo 6.9 seconds

yamaha R1 5.5 Seconds

125bhp Lupo gti is 8 seconds behind an Audi TT which I would call a benchmark. 225bhp is hot hatch / perfromance car IMO.

this is a stupid thread

And Ray I will be looking out for you, you wont catch me on the Fly again <IMG SRC="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/coffee.gif"> style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":coffee:" border="0" alt="coffee.gif" />

I whooped your ass on the way to Leeds VW Fest 2009!

Perth to Leeds, leader constant leader swaps, but I was in the lead the entire A66 and finished first. :)

Please note the OP said for "a laugh" and "on the fly", so I assume humerous threads are the norm.

Holy sh*t, has this REALLY been resurrected again?

I was walking along this morning and overtook an unmarked Police Volvo with his lights on

On the fly

I overtook a Bugatti Veyron the other day. I made him eat my dust by overtaking at 40 mph over the speed that he was doing! That's how fast these Lupo's are...

...the Veyron was parked, but in line with this thread, I overtook him on the fly didn't I?

Hi people for a laugh

and proper

Suberu Impreza wrx turbo (on the fly) guy was well pissed <IMG SRC="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif"> style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

rover 620ti

saxo vtr / vts not hard lol

M3 BMW (on the fly twice)

corsa 1.8sri

this is it so far but always looking for a laugh!!!!!!!!!

thanx Martin <IMG SRC="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wave.gif"> style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wave.gif" />

im sorry but 1.8 sri corsas are actually slow, i have a 1.4s and in a race coming up the slip road onto the speed oval :P i was racing my brothers mates 1.8 sri corsa and his mates golf vr6, vr6 fecked off, and me in my 1.4s and my brothers mate in his 1.8 sri were side by side upto about 105-10ish then mine would not go any further and he kept on going lol, so id say a lupo gti should wipe the floor with one, i asked the lad when we stopped off the speed oval and he said he was foot flat to floor in every gear

Haha this thread is brilliant.

Now I may be wrong with this statement as I've never owned any of the cars mentioned, but I did my research on parkers facts & figures and concluded that:

Its already been said that the GTi is slower than a VTS. Now in the grand scheme of things, the top of the range VTS still isnt quick. As long as its not completely bottom of the range, most "rep-mobiles" (3/5 series, Vectras, Insignias, a4's, mondeos etc.) will keep up with a VTS until it tops out at 127mph.

What the lupo does do however, regardless of engine size, is make you smile. I've converted 2 of my mates who drive "big boy" cars. They both used to slate my car, until they drove it, both of them turned round and said its fun to drive. Just a 1l on coilies but its still chuckable. Just depressing putting the power on after the apex, only for nothing to happen.

Now what really annoys me is people who drive quick cars slowly. I'm following a corvette down a country road, hes sat at 35-40 so at the next clear straight i move into the other side of the road at which point he notices, floors it and leaves me. ONLY TO CARRY ON AT 40 WHAT A FACKING TOOL.

Or another day I was following 2 jap cars in convoy. I overtook them as they were sunday driving an I had to make pace, Only to get overtaken by them 30 seconds later, absolutely screaming in VTEC trying there hardest to make eye contact with me as they pass. Well done you overtook a 1l.

ah well....
