Koop, UK Border Angency have been on to us at Club Lupo HQ reporting that they have lost an extended family of illegals in the Manchester area. They are asking if you could please check your wheel arches.

Nice try

I've been doing wiring :surprise:

12v live cable on the aerial adaptor had a female connector & I needed a male. Top is the connector I cut off, bottom is the cable that was already in the block for the head unit which had a couple of spade connectors on it. Obviously I cut the connector off, stripped the cable & fitted it to the spade connector. Quite impressed with myself

Toss pics sorry.

Electrical taped the **** out of the bitch

Connecting

Connected

Yes my car is a bomb site, it's very much a work in progress atm!

But I has radio!

IMAG2131_zpsa27e8bb9.jpg

Reception's pretty toss, I'm not entirely convinced my cabling's working, though the adaptor was a couple of quid from ebay so can't expect too much, the reception was never that good with the standard head unit tbh.

I'm starting to think I could have got away with 20mm/30mm on the adaptors instead of 15/20 & having a mare sourcing shorter bolts for the fronts  I could only get 21mm which seem far too short, I might get some standard bolts & grind them down at some point, they're literally less than a mm too long.

Just cut the bolts? Seems pikey and I always thought it would be a bad idea but when you read the advice given by H&R they say that some spacers may require you to chop the standard bolts so surely it must be ok?

Put a nut on the bolt right to the head.

Chop or saw bolt.

File edge of thread to take away any sharp edges.

Put bolt in vice and unscrew nut with a spanner. This will recut the thread at the leading end.

Needs arch rolling to go any lower really. I tried!

So here's where we started...jacked up

IMAG2142_zps75ac8df4.jpg

Threads cleaned off with a wire brush

IMAG2140_zpsaa148848.jpg

Line of copper grease down the thread

IMAG2141_zpsef897604.jpg

Dropped after first attempt

IMAG2143_zps73754c72.jpg

IMAG2144_zps2eacc333.jpg

Doesn't look that low...

IMAG2145_zpsee4d7738.jpg

That's cos it was still sat on the jack, oops. Got it out by lifting with one of these...

IMAG2147_zps05d1307f.jpg

Max 630 kg! All the cars they provide with these weigh considerably more than that, no wonder they drop cars on people!

That's more like it

IMAG2148_zpsa12a153e.jpg

With one side done the other side already need a jack to get the jack under

IMAG2150_zps2d12a72a.jpg

With 2 sides done, it appears I went a bit far

IMAG2151_zpsf0f696cb.jpg

Looks awesome like this

IMAG2152_zps3ea06c9b.jpg

IMAG2155_zps4d6dd90b.jpg

Rake

IMAG2156_zpsa6565430.jpg

Arches were eating the tyres on test drive though :(

IMAG2157_zps8edea445.jpg

So it came up a bit

IMAG2159_zps7cf6b129.jpg

Looks like loads of arch gap here, the stretch isn't helping

IMAG2160_zpsa719c182.jpg

There really isn't though, can barely get a finger in!

IMAG2172_zps57f978e0.jpg

IMAG2161_zps8deda836.jpg

Not mega low, but low enough imo

Once I was happy I jacked up again & re-greased the threads

IMAG2162_zps80541b7c.jpg

Rear still needed lowering badly

IMAG2163_zpsf574658a.jpg

Didn't have an 18mm spanner to get the adjusters out so just had to wind it down as far as I could for now

From here...

To here

Pikey style.

Not bad

This was all friday night. Saturday saw a trip to B&Q for an 18 mil.

This came out & adjuster ring off

IMAG2173_zpsf03096f2.jpg

And back in

IMAG2174_zps9223eb31.jpg

Much better :D

IMAG2175_zps074d751b.jpg

IMAG2176_zps3a81d6da.jpg

IMAG2179_zps010f102d.jpg

Couldn't get the bolt out on the other side though :( So it's about 10mm higher on the n/s rear, it's settled fairly level though tbf.

Also got the front door cards in

IMAG2181_zpsf843e3b9.jpg

& now my car is lovely & low again, Mrs Koop has nicked it as the Polo's gearbox is leaking oil :(

Also she had banging/rattling noises, found this has come detached

IMAG2183_zps6d31d85b.jpg

Had a fiddle trying to clip it back on & a ball bearing dropped out so it's looking like a new top mount will be needed!

Local garage are having a look tomorrow. Hoping to God the gearbox is just a knackered seal.

Looks good Koop, don't like the way you can fit a finger under that front arch though man, what's going on there, can just about get a finger nail in my front arch gap lol!

I don't have your dedication  I decided I wanted to have it lower on the back than before but higher at the front, that said when I dropped it til it caught the arches, it looked bloody good & made me rather want my arches rolled...

  • 4 weeks later...

It was just with using 15mm adaptors on the front & them needing shorter bolts. You can just file standard bolts down a bit if you've got a vice, but I haven't. Or a file  There have been various headaches with both dubs lately, haven't updated in a while cos it's just a bit depressing lol I will get on it at some point though
