Philplop
I get quite a bit of brake fade when giving it some, and that's with the G60 280mm conversion.Need to bleed the system and put new fluid in, see if that makes a difference. L7UPO
i've never had a problem with the standard brakes. i had a Pug 306 rallye and that was fine with standard brakes but i fitted EBC dics and pads and they were crap. i also have a mini and the brakes fade every time i go for a drive.if you have had brake fade are you using VW discs and pads? Philplop
I'm using Black Diamond grooved discs and pads all round.
Adam
I don't have any problem with mine and i'm using the standard setup (Zimmermann discs and Pagid pads).
SiiMo
Never had a problem with the standard brakes on mine, would say they are pretty good
vworks41
The standard brake set up isn't to bad, but they do suffer abit from brake fade. defiantly room for improvement though.
Tigzâ„¢
Mine are fine also.Only ever lost brakes once, and that was after a very spirted drive down the snake pass - twice!Normally they are more than up to the job.
Bikerz
This was a topic talked aboout at ed38 and most said they were great brakes. Mine suffered from brake fade with standard pads and disks
willcrook
Mine are awfull, I do go for long very spirited drives though....The brakes fade very quickly, the stopping power is reasonable...If I knew I was keeping the car i'd invest in a NO EXPENSES SPARED brake setup! (wilwood? )(I wrote the topic last night after a long blast in the countryside, was a great drive but the brakes pissed me off again!) Rich
I nearly crapped my pants the other week whilst having to stop racing some kind of escort. They're not the best and I've got standard discs with greenstuff pads all round. lupo_gaz
yeah i've been looking at the willwood 256 conversion but they only do it to fit 256x20mm disk with the mount for a mk2 and i'm not sure if the spacing is the same. anyone know? 2001gti
ive gone to EBC fronts with greenstuff pads, and wen they are warm their really good.

willcrook
and... are they any good?or are you just bragging?do you have led lights on your alloys or are they glowing with heat?
malibukid
ive done the 280 mm conversion.. id like to go a bit bigger but purley for cosmetics.at first i used the green stuff pads with black diamond grooved discs but they didnt really bite properly.. although it was a massive improvement over the standard set up..i then switched to mintex extreme pads and the brakes spot on at the moment. guess its all trial and error for whichever combination of pads and discs to suit you. badger5
and... are they any good?or are you just bragging?do you have led lights on your alloys or are they glowing with heat? The picture says it all.... obviously.no led's req'd - LMAOthis is no Halfords pimp mobileInside the car, racing around Oulton Park, you would be oblivious to the glowing disks such was the consistency of the braking and pedal feel. 256mm Lupo GTi brakes suk. Faded like a pig, overheated.... and did not stop it so well. This car used to also run 305mm Brembo 4-pots which was seriously overbraked for such a small & light car.The 280mm setup worked much nicer as a package, combined DS2500 pads and high temp motul brake fluid. (as per my ibiza racecar)Good enough answer for you? Edited September 10, 2007 by badger5
badger5
Surely those brakes carnt work when they are that hot oh yes they can. (when you use components suited to the extreme duty)I avoid EBC pads like the plague... nasty pieces of rubbish by comparison.Greens too soft, reds about their best offering, yellow utter pants
