edt
When looking into possible contributions towards repair costs a certain criteria is taken into consideration, your vehicle falls out of this criteria in two areas, which are the age of the vehicle and the fact that your vehicle does not have a complete service history. That's crazy - it's not as if the clutch receives any attention during a service, whether at VW or with an indy.Ed
lunalupi
I just read in the paper this morning that in 2004 the Office of Fair Trading ruled that manufacturers could no longer invalidate warranties because a car is serviced outside the main dealer network. So as lond as your car has a complete service history with someone, the VW argument that they won't do it because a car has not been serviced by VW is invalid - although that doesn't stop them coming up with another reason for not doing it! jermaine
I got the same reason for my pedal box not being replace for free (6years old & no FSH). As a Uni student im looking to get my £35 (Part) back and maybe the £60 Dio-Check for 30mins. im not letting VW get away with this because the same day i had to pay £35 for a travel card. Thats a full tank of petrol for me to become ill from all those people who like to caugh without their hands over their mouth.that e-mail address is going to get spammed and so is there headoffice letter box. At my part time job we have pre-paid 1st class recored stickers which will now come in handy if i can get some.im not backing down as im not spending any money for any garage to replace it. I'll do it myself but i want the money back for the part.I wonder what the german customer service is like?

cafcross
I have a slight problem with the box in my GTi.. However it's not the clutch, it's the accelerator and the brake. You can put you foot under both pedals and lift them up slightly, about a cm with the accelerator and half a cm with the brake. So when you press down on them after this the pedal moves fast down to where it was before it was lifted up then acts normally. The accelerator has also started to feel a bit heavier than before when it gets near the bottom of it's push.Any ideas?
dinka
i have a problem with my pedal box but my lupo is 10 years old and 76.000miles... could vw dealer fix pedal box free of charge or i would have to pay for it???
jack1988
This is typical, just typical,.... 8 years? .......My lupo can barely be put into 1st and 2nd, crunches in reverse, has squeaky/wrong hieght clutch but is a year 2000 and if what you say is right i am going to have to start selling furniture, my furniture as a living again. If i tried to get it repaired as a goodwill what do you think my chances are, im going to phone the iow vw dealer tomorrow and see. If they will do it, is there a way i can do it myself?, perhaps with duct tape, cable ties and some hot glue......... or does it require specialist hammers and such.Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.

weemike91
hi ,its wee mike91s big brother here .there are a lot of people on this thread complaining about poor customer service etc ,but what do you expect when the majority show a distinct lack of balls by rolling over and just paying for it . these dealers are in business to make money and as such ,especially when times are hard ,will try their utmost not to do it without getting paid. yes you can switch brands ,but if you do your research you will see similar threads all over the net relating to every single other manufacturer.this is a perfect opportunity for a combined approach as suggested by one of the posts on this thread. has no one ever here ever thought of resorting to legal action ? you only get what you deserve ,thats why customer service in the motor trade has become appalling over the years in situations like this as too many people dont have the bottle to do anything about it.and just remember ,a couple of hundred unexplained punctures and the odd unexplained fir5e might not get what you want ,but you sure feel a lot better knowing you got your money back one way or another . please note i would never advise anyone to commit any illegal actions whatsoever.cheers Edited February 28, 2009 by weemike91

Sunderland
So had a diagnostics check at SEAT they said ther is nout wrong with the pedal box, just that the clutch cable needs replacing as it wasnt biting properly. Just had my car getting its MOT and it needs new pads and dicks all round, fun.
GMInsite
Mine went a couple of days ago , i thought it was user error by not putting the clutch down fully. How much is a pedal box from the dealer as im going to be selling my car in june and obviously will need to get it replaced asap! , Do you think they would do it for free as mine is just over the 8 year limit and only done 60k miles
GMInsite
VW said no to doing it on goodwill and it would cost £330+ to get it sorted

Robmk1
Hi, pretty new around here so forgive me if this has been answered before. By looking at these pics it would seem that its an easy repair once pedal box has been taken out. Straighten and weld it up?Thanks,Rob.
