Tigz™
I wish the 3 letter word search worked style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />There is no time scale on when it should be changed. The belt should be checked regularly, (ie. every service) and replaced when theres the slightest sign of wear. There is a limit on the maximum time before changing, which I forget if its 50 or 60'000 miles. NBR
The VW garage i just spoke to advised that it was 40k or 4 years... i just wanted a second opinion. Anyway can't avoid it... needs doing. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" />
lupogtiboy
ALL VW cambelts and tensioners are now 4 years regardless of mileage! this is especially important with the 16v design engines that use plastic tensioners! bossjohnc
ermm... shouldn't my garage have mentioned this when it was serviced a month or so ago? (50K)

bossjohnc
Oh well... it won't cause any damage unless it breaks. As mine's under warranty and I've not been told it needs changing by VW, I'm leaving it for now.
Snoopy
Oh well... it won't cause any damage unless it breaks.Or slips. How is your car *still* under warranty?

BigMon
Cam belt isn't covered under warranty though is it? I'd be very surprised if it is TBH, though the chances of it going must be fairly slim.My cam belt & service was around £400 from the local VAG specialist. angelo77
Im having my cambelt changed next week, is it worth changing the water pump at the same time?
M1 Lupo
Yes, as its extra labour costs if the pump needs changing afterwards.
tdwindustries
My local VW specialist saw 3 Lupos in 2 years (all 1.4's) with mashed engines thanks to VWs helpful and clear policy on this.Change them!!

Joe
We're booking Jens GTi for a service in a couple of weeks and will be having the cambelt done at the same time. Is the water pump change based on mileage or age of the car? its on 33k and is a Sep 2001 car so now due for the cambelt.how much extra are we looking at for the waterpump to be done too?
