  1. Is this weird thing also happening with LPG system turned off? Sadly modern ECU systems are friendly with cheap LPG retrofitments, because they make incorrect fuel adaptations. Every car without intelligent fuel adaptations can run perfectly with LPG system. However LPG system should have nothing at all to do with switching off your engine.
  2. So lovely, I enjoy reading your posts! I thought thats just a fairy tale about buffalo rubbing stone becoming round, but sounds like you are very serious.
  3. I dont see that necessary on lupo as well, you can try to add an extra power consumer (like an empty battery or something) and check again, but Lupo itself has so few electric items that I hardly doubt overruning pulley will do any job. However VW engineers didnt think so.
  4. I can not listen at this moment, but im pretty sure it is catalytic converter, which is dying rapidly.
  5. Overrunning alternator pulley is very important only for cars with powerfull alternators. I experienced how broken pulley feels (locked) with 140A althernator and 3.3l V6 engine, engine was instantly shaking with high electricity consumption on idle, however there were no difference while driving on highway. All possible electric equpment shall be turned off to prevent shaking on idle. Because of the small diameter pulley a powerfull alternator can make huge impact on engine crankshaft. The weaker is the alternator, the less impact it can possibly make.
  6. I think its wires fault not the switch, cars in 90ties had very direct wiring from body to doors, therefore wires wraps a lot every time you open and close your door. Its works fine for years, but it is very common electric fault reason at doors or even rear door.
  7. Thats simply amazing whats happening out there. Next time You can try to release the hood before leaving the car to freeze. Mine hood opener also works bad in cold weather, I actually need to lift the hood by hands to complete the hood realease, might be this technique helps you out.
  8. Oil light also flashes when oil pressure sensor is faulty or does not match pressure range (in case someone used part from different VAG engine). I hope your wife will enjoy this car and post boxes will be not too high from ground. Best regards. Nevermind, I just replied to very old post. BTW i think very few cars would be able to start at -40c
  9. Lupo is easy to bleed, no need to do something special, like for some other cars. Sounds like thermostat fault, car usually stays on 70C or overheats with faulty thermostat. Mine lupo heats up to 90 in first two miles, even in winter, no need to burn another 7 liters of fuel to check if its working or not.
  10. It is located on plastic side shell of radiator, below top coolant pipe (therefore it is hard to remove it painlessly while your car is overheated). If the fan works on both speeds "hotwired" then its the switch, if it does not then problem is probably in fan. I don't know much about GTI, might be Lupo GTI has fan controller module, but even then you can check the fan by "hotwiring" it.
  11. I use rubber mats made by Frogum for lupo/arosa.
  12. I think your fan switch is broken, You can easy test it by removing connector and putting a wire in, to connect bottom and one of top pins (one goes for low speed and other one for high speed) Since I accidentally replaced mine with cheap 2 pin swich, mine works only at full speed 😕. Image for information:
  13. You would need spacers even for some VW turbines, am I silly or I just don't understand how do you imagine someone answering this question just by your purchase as "renault"?
  14. they where only 175mm wide, but 23" tires rubbed arches of mine Lupo on strong impacts.
  15. IMHO R16 will always rub. Even R15 must be selected properly with low profile tyres to not rub.
  16. https://forums.clublupo.co.uk/index.php?/profile/47072-red-green/ sent the same for me.
  17. I disagree this time, there only 19mm difference of front brakes for 16v and sport version. A friend of mine had 100hp 1.2TDI 3L, he didn't felt like the brakes are too weak to stop the car. If you modify your car and increase weight or if you want to drive track then good brakes are must have, but not on daily car, on road you have plenty of time to cool them down.
  18. Yes, thats not an easy thing to do but straight swap, I think ECU might have the same pins and socket, if Jakesartin can get a set to upgrade his engine to Sport version, then it might work. Since he was not interested in anything else than power increase, I think brakes upgrade might be not yet necessary for him.
  19. Talking about 100hp, lupo 1.4 16v sport version has 100hp, and thats 25hp more than regular 1.4 16v engine, might be, if parts are available, that could be easy upgrade.
  20. Azmk1 recently shared a lot of free ELSA files. They are mostly in russian, but a lot of usefull infromation there. If you can convert from pdf to text, might be able to auto-translate and understand them.
  21. Start by removing the little coin holder by pulling it out, there are also two screws in both sides of bottom buttons under caps, I dont remember any further disassembly.
  22. EWT gearbox has 2,210 reduction, but HCS gearbox has 216mm clutch plate and 90mm flanges instead of 228mm clutch plate and 100mm tripod flanges on EWT gearbox, therefore they are totally not plug and play replacement. HCS have 37:50 5th gear sprockets and makes 2.672 reduction in top gear, which is around 2,5k RPMs on 60mph. There actually are one 085 gearbox with 36:51 sporckets, but I don't think this modification will give you much result for a lot of effort, if you will manage to get those sprockets on your gearbox.
  23. Thats amazing price, I have had 500£ offers from services where they offered to remove the gearbox as well, therefore I replaced the gearbox myself, without rebuilding the "new" one, almost 40 000km and still works fine. I store a spare gearbox at home, which havent been rebuilt yet, I will look for possibilities to do it. You can find bearing part numbers on 7zap. I recomend to replace the following: https://7zap.com/en/catalog/cars/Volkswagen/brand/20/0/Lupo/Lupo (1999 - 2003)/Volkswagen/U09CN0ovOE5rc04wR29jZDcra2kwUT09--/6bbffde8b5b8077d2d0a5796da6eea3c:a1d827dbcc8bea400cbf51f2712806db/manufacturer/3/232311350::311031 No 15 and 2 - 085311123D / INA 712 1299 10 https://7zap.com/en/catalog/cars/Volkswagen/brand/20/0/Lupo/Lupo (1999 - 2003)/Volkswagen/U09CN0ovOE5rc04wR29jZDcra2kwUT09--/6bbffde8b5b8077d2d0a5796da6eea3c:a1d827dbcc8bea400cbf51f2712806db/manufacturer/3/232311300::311030 No 2 - 311405625N No 18 - 085311123N / INA 712 1299 10 No 20 - 085311431J / INA 712 0478 10 (new 5th gear bearing) Funny, I just discovered 311405625N is same like inner hub bearing from Audi A4 (B5) rear wheel.
  24. why lambda could be any other than 1 if the exhaust system does not have any leaks?
