Rich
I just bought another Lupo, I had it delivered to me as well. It's a W plate SDI, it's red, filthy but no scrapes, rear arches are a bit rusty and it's on 209k.£500, bought it for the craic really.Anyone else noticed how cheap they're getting ?
sam_vr6
Wow £500 is nothing, suppose the mileage helped bring the price down a lot though. I've noticed the ones with mileages approaching 200k are pretty cheap but anything with a mileage below 100k that looks quite good is still asking for almost £3k in some cases more. Rich
Thing is it drives fine and receipts for a cambelt at 200k.Mileage doesn't worry me.
sam_vr6
Wait I just released figures i've been working with are for tdi's. I'd imagine sdi's, 1L and 1.2L will be bit cheaper....You're defo right though that there's plenty to be picked up for under a grand. And sounds like you've bagged yourself a good deal there, well done
Rich
It's slower than the TDI.I now understand why SDI people whinge on about them being slow.
Pete
It's made for mpg, not mph blah blah blah.
Rich
I totally understand that Pete, I'm going to think about ways to put a turbo on it, use bigger injectors and a different pump and get super mega power.Seriously though, reckon I can run it on fryer oil ?
sam_vr6
It's made for mpg, not mph blah blah blah. The 1.4 TDI is quicker and got exactly the same figures for economy as the 1.7 SDIBoth 64.2mpg combined75bhp vs 60bhp144lbs/ft vs 84lbs/ft0-62mph in: 12.3s vs 16.8sTop Speed: 106mph vs 97mphThe SDI is cheaper to buy in the first place though! matt123roll
Look how many GTi owners ae struggling to sell at £3k, I think as lupos get older newer cars come down a lot in price so you can pick up a tidy mk5 golf for £3.5k or an 03 Gti for the same money, however every now and then a bargain comes up like your SDI. Skezza
I'm not sure they are getting very cheap. The Lupo you bought does have 200 thousand miles on. That would put a lot of people off. Wipe 100k of those miles off and it would probably worth twice as much. Also the rust... GTIChris
I think Mcrindles sold for a good price. It was "only" a 1ltr but his Audi interior was mint, had low mileage, looked in real good condition and well looked after, ideal 1st car.Think it went for about £1850, the interior alone probably worth anywhere upto £600 on a good day so someone got a pretty good deal me thinks. Then you have people try their luck trying to sell Gti's for £6000-£7000 either cos of low mileage/rarer colour examples or loads of mods ie air, bbs' etc etc....when we all know you never get back the money you put in to modifying a car, that shouldn't be what it's done for cos invariably you're always gonna loose out.Good find though for £500 even if it was for the craic and just gets run into the ground. Piers
Selling a car with all mods is crazy. I advertised mine just for the sake of it but I got good money For the bits I sold separately. I'm struggling to sell mine for Under 3k. 2600 reserve on eBay and hopefully it will go. Bargain buy rich! It's the kind of buy I want after mines gone. Super cheap daily that's good on fuel. And something that isn't really an issue if it gets damaged.
GTIChris
Think that's the way to do it, you'll get decent money for parts separately rather than trying to recoup any money with them on the car, and if you can keep hold of your old bits to put back on the car and get it back to near standard all the better. Piers
i pretty much did this... did a deal on the air that included coilovers, bought the bathurst with the BBS money and the plate went in my pocket. The problem with selling a complete car is that nobody wants to take glory for something they havnt created.Selling a car with full retrim, air, bbs etc is never going to happen really. Pottster
bet you could pick up a half decent ford escort for next to nothing in the early 1990's - wonder what you'd get for one these days? My point is every car hits an absolute rock bottom before they become something worth having (obviously some more that others) before the numbers gradually become scarcer - and selling prices tend to go up for good examples or they just disappear to the scarp-yard in the sky when you take into account running costs - cars are an expensive luxury, expensive but affordable/necessity or a must have for work purposes, its nice that folk can pick up a half decent run around for buttons :-) Edited January 31, 2013 by Pottster
sam_vr6
Escort rs turbos are going up in value now. Standard escorts are still worth next to nothing though, know a guy on another forum who picked up a 1.3 escort, absolutely mint, low mileage for age for a few hundred quid.
