  1. Joe had one, then didn't... Same happened for me with a good FFV box in Letchworth or Bedford or somewhere around there... Not having much luck with bits at the mo. And now I'm looking for 085311247B
  2. I learnt something new today! Thanks for the info
  3. Someone on here was breaking a lupo (it'll fit) in Bedford up the road from you. You may have to have a search as it was a couple of months ago. What a bummer. And on the way home from just buying it! oh, and welcome to club lupo!
  4. Engine vacuum, through a jam jar so nothing gets sucked into the engine....?
  5. You must use a vacuum cleaner... Inject liquid glue with a syringe (gorilla glue , liquid epoxy slow setting or similar). Spread it around by pushing it right into the edges with you fingers. Then use atmospheric air pressure to push it back in again. Use a small tube if you need to, connected to the vacuum hose.
  6. Me first... am waiting for reply...
  7. If there's a cable that looks like a bicycle brake cable going to the throttle body, then it's a 'bowden cable'. If there's a bulge looking like an electric motor with a plastic cap, then it's a motorised brive by wire computer controlled throttle
  8. So was the same as a mk4 golf... cool. Good to have it confirmed. I guess you get continental climate rather than atlantic based weather. Next week we're expecting 35c. Then the following 14c.
  9. I hate to say it, but diagnostics are as good as the software INSIDE THE ECU... When you design an ECU, certain things have to assumed to be ok, so diagnosis can be hit and miss. That's where the autoelectricians earn their money. It's more thinking, head scratching and relying on past knowledge than actual "doing" usually. Electrics are like christmas trees lights- it takes just one in the chain to knock them out. Then it takes time to find it.

    Exhaust help

Louder doesn't mean more power... Engine designers know that there is some back pressure, and end up using it by changing cam timing to eek out a small increase in torque. American engine designers in particular love back pressure, as it shifts the torque down the revs.... to make the automatic gearbox work better when around the stall point of the torque convertor. Actually quite a clever way of using something that would otherwise be considered an inefficiency. It's why high revving free flowing engines (like F1 cars) have an anti stall feature. Hardly any torque available around idle rpms.
  11. Its a power relay failure... ecu thinks there's a short. Reality is there's no volts.
  12. I'll stick my neck out and say definitely not the ECU. Convenience control module (CCM) may have a link to windows and locks as already mentioned, but most likely the lock microswitches in the door. non starting means probably no fuel injecting or no ignition sparking. The ECU uses the crankshaft sensor as it's primary sensor to get the ignition to go; and water temp/MAP/MAF/air temp to work out how much fuel to throw in. Assuming fuel pump is running ok... diagnostics will tell all... the stereo not working makes me think a power relay or perhaps ignition key switch?
  13. Tried an oxygen sensor emulator? Used in LPG conversions.
  14. What do you mean? The ECU is sampling the TPS many times a second, so it knows exactly what's going on. If you're talking about the throttle valve opening delay, that is part of the emissions control program. In days of old, carburettors used to squirt a neat jet of petrol in to the mix to quench the mix. Nowadays, the ECU allows the revs to build up as it gradually opens the throttle, keeping a reasonably high plenum vacuum until full demand is met. Ok, so it all happens in about 1/2 a second....
  15. On solstice day! Just in time for the 40 degree heat arriving in ten minutes. Do you know how much gas it needed to get the pressures correct?

    Change gear ratios...

More info for anyone interested in all our 085 gearboxes... i think I've found the point of origin. The old VW Derby...
  17. Spotted while I was going northbound Sunday PM 16/6/19. You were wearing a baseball cap on backwards. Nice tidy, lowered example, but sure which model. I was in my silver SDI. Don't think you spotted me.
  18. The little plastic dufus thingy has probably popped off. So when you think you're selecting R, it's actually 1st. The left-right stick motion control is defective by the sounds of things. Part number 6N0711575A. Could be something else though, like something loose?
  19. What model you have? Sure it's not drive by wire (not cable)?
  20. Nice. How much did you pay? -only to see where the market is for gtis at the mo...
  21. God yeah. Forgot that there was a 1.4! OMG. Yes i only use it for long comfy "road trips". They ARE a very comfy car...

    Change gear ratios...

    More research... have found out that all the following cars used the same basic 085 gearbox internals, some with 5 speed some only 4. All the same shafts which is nice: VOLKSWAGEN: POLO MK1, MK2, MK3 1.0 (1995-2001), 1.05 (1985-1996), 1.3 (1982-1995), 1.3 COUPE (1985-1990), 1.3 COUPE GT (1982-1987), 1.4 (1996-2001), 1.6 (1994-1999), 1.6 16V (1998-1999) GTI 1.6 16V (1999-2001), 1.3 D (1986-1990), 1. 4D (1990-1994), 1.4 TDI (1999-2001), 1.7 SDI (1997-2001), 1.9 D, SDI, TDI (1995-2001). VOLKSWAGEN: LUPO 1.0 (1998-2005), 1.4 (2001-2005), 1.4 16V (1998-2004), 1.2 TDI (1999-2005). VOLKSWAGEN: VENTO 1.4 (1991-1995), 1.6 (1991-1994). VOLKSWAGEN: CADDY 1.4 (1995-2004), 1.6 (1995-2004). VOLKSWAGEN: JETTA 1. 3 (1985-1992). VOLKSWAGEN: GOLF MK2 1.3 (1987-1992) / GOLF MK3 1.4 (1991-1999), 1.6 (1992-1994). AUDI - A2 1.2 TDi (2000-2005). so now it's mix and match time. My quest continues.
  23. With a tail wind. What a rubbish car. Terrible engine design. Why do i still have it...
