Joe
Pretty normal as Martin says, but yes, the cambelt 'should' be changed as the car is at the 4year/40k guidelines that VW set.
Adam
If you feel it jerking in the morning or when slowing down for a junction/traffic jam just dip the clutch a bit, then lift your foot off it again, this seems to work for me.

Clouseau
strange. i wonder if we are thinking of the same kind of jerking. i have never experienced the kangaroo hopping the gti does 1st thing before. do you mean the other cars you have driven judder like that? Get in car, clutch down, engine on, reverse off drive. Drive down the street in second then come up to a corner, 10 seconds away from your drive, so you ease of the accelerator and the car will slow down, judder, slow down, judder.Do you get what I mean now?Maybe we have been comparing different things?NOCK Edited June 10, 2007 by NOCK
Clouseau
when you get it in the lupo do you get the judder just on normal acceleration until it goes away. with the gti it like cuts off the power on acceleration as if it wants to stall, and clutch needs depressing to compensate. we maybe talking different things possibly. lupodave
more noticable when changing down, off the accelarator pedal.Jerking when coming off the accelerator or when down shifting can just be down to driver style. Some people are just naturally smoother up and down the 'box.Try double de clutching when downshifting and it won't jerk/judder. sciroccotune
stronger engine mounts, they are just rubber after all. the engine is bound to be less smooth when cold and can highlight weak mounts. having seen home the lupo engine is mounted im not surprised there is some 'slop' my 1.4 has it a bit although you cant exactly feel it i can tell via the gear stick its there. any gti owner tried polly mounts? I get no jerking/juddering whilst accelerating, it's when I come off the gas and the car starts to slow down that it judders (until the engine is up to temp). This is what I was referring to when I said all cars do it.NOCK
Clouseau
yes different things then. the gti thing is probably gti specific as it seems you dont have it on your 1.4 lupo.thats why we quite often get the issue raised here for new gti owners (including me) who thought something might be wrong with the engine.
