  1. I need to investigate a non working leccy window in one of my SDIs. It suddenly started working a few months ago on a day when it was below freezing the whole day. Then ceased again once it warmed up a bit. I have a hunch that the anti fingertrapping 'system' is based on an over-current sensor that measures the excess current before the top stop is reached. And if it is, chances are that by changing a 5p resistor or something could set the current to a different level (to compensate for friction and wear).
  2. Any other symptoms?
  3. Yeah, I'd do both sides to be sure. Loosen off, then pull and push and retighten. You don't even need to take the wheels off ( but you'll need to jack up). Let us know how you get on... Oh, @Samsandwich welcome to CL
  4. Yeah go 1040. A dishwasher cleans it well! or do a egr bypass...
  5. Not always true with VAG stuff... mostly, but not always. Careful...
  6. If the noise goes away when you put your foot on the clutch, but still doing 50/70 whatever and still in gear, the gearbox is still in mesh and spinning- so the noise would either get worse or stay the same if it's the box. Any slop/backlash between the gear teeth caused by bearings about to fail would usually give whine. Could be the diff, but unusual if it is. When the engine is under load, it pulls against the gear selector slightly, or opens up any gaps. I reckon that's what's happening. yeah, check the oil. Take it for a run to warm up then while still hot empty the oil just after you stop to see what comes out with it. Always worth changing box oil anyways...
  7. Gear linkage mech or perhaps clutch release bearing? Not gearbox. My bet would be gear mech linkage.
  8. Could be a main power relay. They generate the same problems and fault codes. Yeah, could be a fuse. Fault to ground could mean that the injectors are actually ok, as is the wiring, but the 12v supply isn't there. So the ECU thinks that the supply has been shorted out (to ground). It should say, short to ground or faulty supply...
  9. Suspension pics please! (In a different thread)
  10. Cable ties are good for temporary suspension bodging. A load strapped together with some anti chafing rag will get you home. Amazingly strong...
  11. It's like- I need to get home, so i need them bearings to go in my cv joints. Now that's five, where's the sixth... Excellent!
  12. EGR valves all go wrong... The solenoids that control them not as frequently. At least they're only pennies to buy.
  13. Wow that is mint for a nearly 20 YO car! Nice one.
  14. I can't remember if you're meant to clean and regrease the nylon sliders in the front brake calipers or leave them dry? The sliding tube is stainless and nylon bearings usually don't need grease. But should I grease them? If yes, with which type of grease?
  15. I did wonder! I wish at least one of my Lupos looked that good. Are there many Lupos left on swiss roads?
  16. Found this ad, but it kinda gives the general idea- https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=95-2PnLKVA0
  17. On one of my strip cars, I used to get the wheels bolt hole balanced- similar issue to you I'm thinking. Think old beetle wheels- they have no central round hole. The jig is accurately fitted between two cones on the machine balancing shaft to centralise it. Then the bolt rig with taper points rests in the bolt holes (you need the right rig for your bolt pattern), and a screw locking plate locks the wheel very securely to the bolt rig. Then balance as normal, once you've set your wheel centre line point and rim points. Easy and very accurate. Probably more accurate than using the regukar spindle method. But not everyone has that setup.... used in racing.
  18. I remember wheels in the 50's were discs with hub caps, 60's were all Pepper pot G60's style. In the seventies, they were Enzos (or many thin spokes), 80's split rims then three spokes, 90's were five spokes, 00's Teddy's and wierd combos and now a reverse cross of custom hot rod rims mixed with split rims. Rivets everywhere. It's definitely trends and fashion. My personal favs are the chunky looking 5 spoke mags like you get on Starsky and Hutch car. Not that they'd fit a loop. Now, how about wire spoke wheels? Nurse, bring me my pipe and slippers.
  19. Welcome to CL! yes, true. Pics please. Even of the old 109 in pieces... On the SDI, the alternator is no fun. Or the steering pipes. Or the top door hinges.
  20. Please please. All your knowledge needs to be shared before it's too late! Oh I dunno- just thought I'd say that (to answer your question..!). You know that the UK Lupo market is now at a turning point where many cars are now becoming no longer cost effective to repair through garages. I'd reckon that about 70% of owners are now enthusiasts, so you won't be losing out... How about- do a step by step text guide, and I'll follow it taking pics as I go?
  21. Is that a crack or reflection on the right light cluster?
  22. If it balances on the machine, then the only thing left is bent hub or spindle... the bolt circle on a wheel is very accurate.
