Alex L
I know there has already been a thread about this but I'm still stuck. I have a MK1 Lupo with the in-din cupholders. I'm trying to take it out so I can change the centre console plastic (any hints on this too would be appreciated) but I can't for the life of me get them out. I'd say it is stuck un the underside but I don't know how to release this. I've tried taking the hazard light button/rear windscreen heater button off but that hasn't helped.Thank you
Alex L
Sorry to bump this but I'm still stuck on this. Any ideas?
madmanncfc
If your removing the whole din assembly it literally just pulls out with a bit of force. You will probably need to pull quite hard just grab it behind the assembly. Once that's out there are some plastic tab things that lift up and the whole cup-holder slides out. Don't pull the cup-holder from the front though you need to push it from the back. If you pull from the front you may accidentally break the it like i did when i tried to remove them.As for the center console i take it your changing to the later one, if so are you also planning to move your switches. If you are you need two new switches and a new stereo surround. The buttons you have are the wrong shape for the lower section of the dash. Alex L
Thanks for the reply, I'm trying to pull out the whole unit yes. I've tried tugging it from the back but no matter how hard I pull it won't come out.
James827
get a small flat head screw driver, towards the top of the lower din put the screwdriver in the left corner, and pull out that side, do the same for the right and it should pop out. does not matter which corner you do first that's just the way i did it haha
Thooooom
sorry to hijack the thread, but its related...if you get the cup holder and tray DIN slot out, can you switch the tray for another cup holder or vise versa ?
treblet
You can swap the cup holder for the coin tray but the front panels are left/right handed so you'll have an icon for a cup holder on your coin tray.Quick blow over with some satin black should solve that problem though! Betts1411
How do you actually get the cup holder out of the whole casing part? I want to swap cup/tray toOpposite sides, keep smashing my hand off my drinks when driving haha :/
Koop
You can swap the cup holder for the coin tray but the front panels are left/right handed so you'll have an icon for a cup holder on your coin tray.No you won't, the front panels are attached to the drawer thingies isnit. How do you actually get the cup holder out of the whole casing part? I want to swap cup/tray toOpposite sides, keep smashing my hand off my drinks when driving haha :/I did this great minds an all that Think it was my first mod. The drawers each have their own casing, there's a bit of sticky tape stuff holding them down at the back, just rip this off. They're attached to the main casing by some little clips at the front, get a screwdriver or something in there to pop the clips & work the drawer casing out, you'll need to pop the clip & ease out the corner then go to the next one unless you've got like 4 hands lol. Then once you've got them out just swap them round & they clip back in. This is all from memory if you have any trouble let me know & I'll have mine out to have a look. Betts1411
Which clips is it to release the drawers? Theres the ones on the top side at the front, the only other one i can see is possibly one on either side underneath, right in the centre of each drawer. Why dont they make things easy?! Koop
I thought it was just the ones at the top/front, I'll have another look

Silver!
No you won't, the front panels are attached to the drawer thingies isnit. The fronts do come off, I have bought some non logo'd from LupoBoz. I also bought a brand new coin tray without the front.
Koop
I know, what I mean is if you take them out the front panels will still be attached so the cup holder symbol will still be on your cup holder unless you change the fronts, treblet was saying they're left/right specific but I've swapped mine over fine
Silver!
I think the DIN type are the same, but it's the underdash GTI type which are different shaped.PS Other way round. GTI are interchangebale, DIN are not.

Had a quick look the other week but couldnt see anything obvious so dont wanna bust nout lol
DaddyC
Ok just went brave and decided to give it a good oul tug as i was damaging the plastic with screwdrivers. Took a good jolt but the lot popped out and took a lump of skin from my fingers whilst at it (basturd). But all done and HU in
