  • 2 weeks later...

Shame about the exhaust height!

ive now decided it looks better lower after comparing it to other sports with it very high, however i do want to try and twist it so at least the oval is horizontal.

maybe when i next go to tton in a few weeks to get new tyres fitted and a full service i will get it up on some ramps and get underneath to see if i can make a bracket to raise it a tiny bit, no idea what i will fix it to tho and i dont really want to go drilling holes thru the car. may be a job for some super strong adhesive. (mixed properly). out of interst, how is your rear badge hanging on?

Also gonna start buying lottery tickets. U never know, fate may want me to have a 1.8T conversion and full respray in a ferrari red, along with a mk4 R32 Twinturbo in shadow blue running 600+bhp...

Im not sure how you think it hanging out of the recess can look better? lol

have you had a look undernieth to see if all the brackets are there holding it on?

ive had a garage look under it before, there are no extra brackets, it has definately been bent down by sum1 standing on it. the garage put the jack under the backbox and lifted the whole car by it and still it went no higher. they offered to remove the backbox, cherry it , then bend the bracket back up, but they said they couldnt say how many hours it would take, and then when they said how much they charge per hour, i politely refused.

it does look better lower. However somewhere between factory and where it is now would be perfect. Makes the back look too high if it is right up.

A photoshop, i would ideally like it somewhere between the 2 as i dont like how u cant see it in a side profile of the car if it is tucked right up in the bumper.

fair play. if you took it to an exhaust specialist they may be able to do something with it for less, i dont know

Went to kwik fit, to enquire, however they dont have any blowtorches? how the hell do they install an exhaust without it lol?

There are some more custom exhaust places, but i doubt they will suggest anything different to removing the backbox. u dont really want a blowtorch next to the fuel tank. Annoyingly, after asking about the cost of a new backbox, apparantly it isnt listed on the parts lists anywhere lol. Car is going for a full service in about 2 weeks so will ask any suggestions from a friendly cheap village mechanic.

what about that scorpion exhaust?, saw a few on people's Lupo's at UD?

Thing is i kinda like it standard, makes a lovely noise as it is, and is virtually silent when u arent thrashing it. Wouldnt want anything larger either as i want it to look factory fresh, but with subtle improvements, aftermarket exhusts arent subtle imo.

Current noise.

my dad got a price for a standard backbox from one of these parts places and it was 200 odd quid

The woman at the desk asked if a standard 1.4 exhaust would do? obv she hadnt actually looked at the car, calling themselves a vw specialist, they acted like they had never seen a lupo before! but they said that a standard 1.4 backbox was £240 lol, what a joke!

I will have to do my own "custom" modification to raise it a bit. No chance of doing anything on the narrow one-way street outside, need to get home and get it on the ramps.

Right, considering doing the G60 upgrade on my lupo for this year, anyone know if it will still happily fit under standard sport alloys?

Alternatively, if they wont, what reasonably priced discs and pads are available?

Love the look of this lupo.. I have a sport with the Bathursts on it and they look really well, very factory styled. Once you get your camber done they sit really nicely in the arches especially as mine is a similar height to yours, only mine is lowered on springs.. Crap I know. I also picked up a spoiler and think it gives the car a really good posture while keeping mods subtle.

As for the exhaust surely a cheap garage would be able to weld/bend it up a few inches with very little effort?! Maybe it's one of those things you casually 'mention' when getting something else done..

Thanks! finally someone who approves of the ride height! any pics of yours on the bathursts? i am considering them,

Like spoilers but not sure it would suit mine... takes it away from standard a tad more than i would like. Car going into a good cheap local garage soon, will point it out when it goes in, chances are the guy will have some fix for it, will probs do it for free too cos we know him quite well.

Actually had another garage look at it who told me that they couldnt get it on their ramps? i think cos i mentioned it was on coilovers they didnt even bother trying. Their attempt at a fix was: put a jack under it and lift. - Proceeded to lift the whole rear of the car up, to which he says "it looked quite sweet actually..." L O L! not exactly professional, not going back there.

Haha!! Best avoid that place! I'll see if I can get some photo's on the phone and upload them. As for the spoiler I might be wrong but I think some sports came out of the factory with them? Only say it because I've seen one or two around with a spoiler on it and they were driven by middle aged women and definitely not modded! You'd be surprised what they might do if you ask when you're getting something else done.. I actually got some guy to 'throw' my springs on while he had the wheels off, he was only changing brake discs and pads - sucker!
