STOP PRESS!!!

Auto Express have just released this confirmation 'rendering' of the final design...

I think they have got it just about right this time.

What's with the 4-stud hubs and 13" rims? And is that a vented rear bumper..?

Engine is in the boot according to the "UP" concept specs.

I know that, but the later representations suggested VW had unsuprisingly bottled it and gone for FWD as it was cheaper than designing a new platform with very limited potential.

However, if you look at those 'spy shots' again, the rear numberplate doesn't even look like its in the same place on each picture. The top one looks like the 'plate recess is pretty normal. Whatever, it certainly looks like the finished design will be more diluted than a pint of Fosters at a Cliff Richard gig.

It's reasonable to assume the front ends will be different, the SEAT with the trapezoidal grille, Skoda rectangular and VW with a slot or two. It looks like the rearmost car of the three has got a big VW roundel in the middle of the grille.

I doubt the SEAT version will carry the side treatment as per the rest of the range, although they didn't bother themselves with the Exeo did they?

I'm hoping they dont do the ridiculous side swage lines.

A style similar to the Exeo estate but on a shortened polo chassis would work quite well.

I can see the VW roundel now you mention it IDGM
