Bad news.

On the way back from seeing Charlton get relegated yesterday I was round the corner from dropping my mate off. Stopped in traffic, a yellow MR2 came flying up from behind me and right into the back of me. This propelled me into the back of the stationary Merc in front. Pics speak for themselves....

Girlfriend was in a state as she hit her head on the dash (airbags didn't go off for some reason!) so took her up hospital later; only concussion and mild whiplash thankfully. Guy admitted it was his fault straight away, claiming that he'd just washed his car (which he had) and the brakes were wet. Bull**** imo, the speed he came at from behind was at least 20mph. Luckily there was a police car around the corner which came round and helped sort things out. All going through him so not going to lose my no claims or have to spend a penny.

So, needs a new front and rear bumper and bonnet. The rear bumper has been pushed in so much that I can't even get the board that covers the spare wheel well down flat. No creasing of the boot floor or on the A-pillars thankfully, and the engine bay seems fine.

Kinda worked out alright though as I wanted my front bumper and bonnet resprayed due to stone chips! Just a pain that it happened then as I was on the way to my 21st birthday gathering at my house which I had to leave shortly into it to take the girlfriend to the hospital.

Not a good day.

That really sucks.

Id take a closer look at the rear of the car. It looks like you have some structural damage to the shell?? Looks like the crossmember has pushed in the back of the floor.

The front is easily repaired, thats what you pay insurance for!

Well it'll obviously be looked at by the garage. I opened the boot this morning and closed it. Can't open it now and the boot open light is on.

That's not a good sign!

Hope it all gets sorted soon mate, it really sucks when this sort of thing happens!

The main thing that's pissed me off is that I bought some wheels on Friday. So hopefully it'll be fixed so I can get them on. If not I've got to sell them!

Did she not have her belt on or something? Even if the pretensioners didnt fire it really should have locked!

Good job the lights didnt smash, else it would be close to being written off I would imagine.

Yeah, belt was on. Don't really know what happened with her tbh. She's making a claim though due to her whiplash, as is my mate.

One of the clips on the passenger side light has gone so may need a new one. It all looks repairable, it's just down to cost and the state of the rear chassis tbh....

Thanks mate, and to the others too.

Sorted it all out through the other guy's insurance now, so getting it fixed asap. Getting it done at a local garage where my mate works, and the guy who did the estimate said he's going to try his best to not let it get written off.

So here's to hoping!

Yours doesnt appear as bad but the outside appearance could be masking more damage beneath..

hope you get a decent repair NOT with patent parts involved, make that clear to the insurance company if they try getting a repair quote elsewhere..

if it is a write off.......

may i have first dibs on parts please!

Lol Andrew.

Cheers for those pics Blackcat. Seeing those has made me a lot more optimistic. No chassis damage as far as I can see but I'm not a specialist. Sent the estimate off to the insurance company today and they're gonna get back to me asap.
