Philplop
Rear calipers? Red ones would have clashed with the black Wilwoods!
foxy
Indeed I have painted my rears black to match the Wilwoods, and yes the pizza was very good. I saw you today going past Brockwell but I was in the van so you wouldnt have seen me.Phil you dont need to worry about bleeding the ABS, a quick change over shouldnt effect the pump. Im having problems because it stood for a week with no calipers on.Ive had to order a new ABS sensor today because i broke one of mine, cost just over £60...bloody rip off

rooco
Hi FoxyVery interested in your Wilwood conversion as I have a set of Midilites in my shed which I purchased from Rally design a few years ago for my old Scirocco. Anyway did you get the mounting brackets with your kit, if so can you tell me the code so I can see whether they are the same as the brackets I have, if not all I'll need is new brackets and discs. You have inspired me fit the Wilwoods to the Sport. What pads do you have ? I found that the options were quite limited for the Midilites. As mentioned previously do watch the bleed nipples I've had to replace a few as they are very soft and break easierly, I have a few spare, just in case.Fantastic car, I bet it handles and brakes amazingly !! keep up the good workcheers

As said I have Mintex 1144 pads, which so far im finding very good, have yet to test them on track. And as for the bleed nipples, yes they are very small but i couldnt imagine snapping one off, they dont need to be that tight, and regular maintenance should keep them good. I'll be the first to put my hand up if I snap one.Yes the car does handle amazingly, its like a totally differnt car now and im having to learn to drive it all over again. He's running Mintex fast roads (M1444) as far as I remember him saying in his 1/2 drunken tired state Yeah, good night out that was, and I still dont remember emailing you. TomStevo
Are you running then on standard sized disks? I'm looking to run these on mine with gti disks
TomStevo
Also are they alot wider the standard gti stoppers? I was thinking of these as they say they are quite a slimline 4pot, looks very close on yours tho, and I have a pretty big dish on my wheels lol, I was hopeing I would get away with a small spacer lol
foxy
Its got sod all to do with how much dish your wheels have. Its the offset that makes the difference and the shape of the spoke design.A flat spoke such as the bathurst will fit without problems, but a very curved design like ATS cups for example wont fit.Do you understand about wheels offsets Tom? Philplop
When I was looking at Brembo kits on eBay from a brake kit 'specialist', many moons ago, he said that you needed wheels with a certain offset. I questioned this, as I don't see any relevance at all to the offset. Needless to say, I never got a reply. They're 280mm discs, and yes, they're wider, that's why they're so close to the wheels, and they're the same width along the whole caliper, if that makes sense, so split rim bolts can catch on the calipers, whereas they would miss 280mm G60 calipers. foxy
Offset could cause problems if its mental high like 60, 70, 80. But thats very rare to get wheels that high.Only reason the bathursts are so close is because of the offset, if it was a more reasonable 30ish then they would fit much better. But its most certainly wheel style that you need to watch out for, if your wanting to run these brakes forget about poncy euro wheels, you need to be looking for flat spoke designs. TomStevo
Haha lol my offset on front ain't no were near standard, it's printed on front of wheel so al check in the morn, Ye I understand Offsets and that but obviously to get a dished wheel under the arch u need a higher offset wheel don't ya (or which ever way it is, I always forget which way, lower offset, eg et20 will sit further out than et30 or vise versa) lolyou got a rough estimate how much closer to the spokes the wilwoods sit compared to the standard calipers? Philplop
Yeah, at a rough guess, I'd say lots. I'll have a look at a GTI with G60's on next time I see one, and see what the difference is. Edited June 3, 2010 by Philplop
foxy
Well cause standard brakes dont have pistons on the outside and these do, Im also going to agree with Phil and say lots! Also judging by the fact Bathursts are nowhere near standard calipers and you can barely fit a piece of paper in there now, thats bringing me back to 'lots' again!! TomStevo
Damn! Lol I'm gonna need stoppers to stop 200+ bhp, but don't wanna change wheels, proving to be impossible lol
