Tigz™
I dont have the time TBH mate.I finish work and get home for 5om, but have hloe until 7pm each night while Emma goes to the Gym.I may have to do away with the Polo ECU idea yet, I'm awaiting on JBS to do a bit of research into it, but the guesses that there wouldn't be enough scope looks to be true.We have a Saxo as a runner round, but I'm bored of having no car so bought the Polo. Tigz™
More progess at least.Just ordered a pre-built, ready to roll Megasquirt Extra squirt & Spark V3.0 board with in built MAP sensor and all automotive grade components.Comes with labled loom, mapping software, and a VW base map.The company has been importing the bits, and building them up for sale since Febuary and have not had any problems with the kit. They can be bought for £270 including delivery.I managed to get that down a little though <IMG SRC="style_emoticons/default/wink.gif"> style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />Had to send them a cheque though, so delivery should be around 10 days including giving the cheque time to clear.Getting excited!MTech Automotive LTD.0789132882966 Westbury LeighWestburyWiltshireBA13 3SQ
david_phillips95
Nice one, Whats the main differences with this kinda ecu compared to something like a motec ecu. I kno the motec units are more than double the price? but can the megasquirt be programmed and set up the same as a more expensive ecu? Thanks Daveand as far as ecu's are concerned, the standard 4av unit fitted to the 1.4 models is more than capable of handling forced induction engined cars, they can be reprogrammed by poeple like custom code or revo to do almost anything If this is true why are you changing your ecu to an aftermarket one? I dont understand? Thanks Dave

Tigz™
I kno the motec units are more than double the price? but can the megasquirt be programmed and set up the same as a more expensive ecu? Theres a few differences. But non of which will give you any more power.Something like a Motec has been developed for years, the software is pretty user friendly, and the big name engine mappers will tell you it is easier to map.As the Mega squirt is not as well non (its getting there though) the big name players will tell you it will take them longer to map, as they will have to learn how to map it so it will cost you more money. This isn't really true, the theory behind what you are trying to do when building a map is the same, it is only the software that is different.TBH I am not spending more than double the amount on a part, just to make it easier for a mapping company to make money out of me.There is a few company's who will map this ECU now so its not so much of an issue. If this is true why are you changing your ecu to an aftermarket one?Because I would need to buy and replace my loom as my loom is for a 8v 1.0 engine. Then there is questions on how much adjustment is in the standard ECU.I'll get a better result with the stand alone system TBH.thats a sweet price with all the loom an that!shouldnt be too long now really, just lots of wiring fun. and some mapping!! I'm really impressed with the price, and like I said I got a little knocked off )What ECU did you end up going with?
david_phillips95
i have ordered two books one on engine management think its the haynes one and a book on supercharging design installation and testing so gonna try and get more clued up then ill begin the work. Tigz™
Just done the list for my mate in Scotland.Doesn't seem that much really now its all wrote down.Theres some bodywork on the list also, but thats private style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />Rear Shocker Bump stops are perished Although new ones will need cutting down to the same size as they are now.Front brake flexi (Lupo GTI)Clean up front discs – New front pads (Euro car parts sell cheap OE Spec – Lupo/Polo GTI)I have the N/S calliper and carrier here, will send it up.Rear drums have done 30k mile, and after being stood so long, I expect they'll need relining.Check I've fitted the front Anti roll bar correctly. The N/S track rod end needs adjusting (like you couldn't see!)Drive shafts need a couple of coats of black paint before fitting.I cleaned out and re greased one, but didn't get round to the second one. There is a gearbox mount bolt missing.Mike dropped it when we fitted the engine and we couldn't find it.New Lamba probe needed to fit to new manifold. Wiring needs extending.I'm trying to get hold of a wide band sensor, will let you know when I find one.Stainless Flexi fitting to Manifold Down pipe (also found this in the house, will send it to you.)Spacer plate manifold requires one hole elongating to be bolted to the head. Two holes required into the ports – One for MAP Sensor (Built into ECU) – One for vacuum feed for Servo.Throttle bodies require O Rings (Two I think are missing?) If you don't have any let me know and I'll get a set sent to you from Jenvey.I've just remembered about the filter socks, I'll order a set and send them up.Throttle cable is attached to throttle pedal, but is not cut to size. The ECU I going to be fitted in the centre of the dash under the head unit (Theres a hole for two dins) and the plate for the LEDs and Serial port connection to the front (I'll make up a cover plate later)Loom will need feeding through the N/S of the bulk head.Dash needs fitting.(All the torque bolts are in a cardboard box on the passenger seat.)Windscreen wiper scuttle panel got stood on, I'm still hunting a replacement, although I'm bored of looking so may as well get one new from dealer. Bolts are in box with dash bolts.Lower door panels are at my house, as they have been flocked. The rest of the light grey panels will also be flocked so no need to fit any of this colour.
