Snoopy
GTI is (I think) group 11.Bear in mind that if you're insured on your parents' insurance, the car can't be in your name. Also, if you drive it more than 50% of the time, you're invalidating your insurance policy.I think I paid £950 for my GTI insurance when I first got it, 0 years NCB, 22yo, 5 years driving experience, in my own name. high on dirt
im paying 1600 with all mods im just 21, but wrote off my focus and caused £8000 damage! All in my own name but have a lame postcode too!
Hopcraft
interesting.. well i am driving it more that 50% of the time, thats why im name driver, its in my parents name i think, but im main driver because i drive to college everyday, so in summer hols it was bout 450, then they sent a letter through the post saying i now go to college and i drive there every day, they decided to double it to 900 style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />. so it has been sorted out with insurance company.. but 950 doesnt sound bad for it in your own name. hmm might ring round and see what stupid quotes they give me. jiimmy
its known as "fronting" when you are a named driver yet drive the car most/al of the time - insurance companies are really cracking down on it
Alfie
i was told by my insurance company that its a very grey area, you are a named driver who will only use a vehicle (not your own) on a tempoary basis. Thats why its cheaper and your a named driver.... so if its your car and u drive it 100% of the time then u have to explain your way out of it.. Try explaining to the insurance company that your a named driver on your dads LUPO GTI which has 12" subs/alloys/exhaust/lowered.... aint really going to wash is it.. so just be warned..Alfie style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Ty
erm hang on a minute... this 50% rule, wheres it come from? is it written into insurance policies? My first year of driving I was a named driver and crashed my arosa whish was written off! A lose adjuster came round to interview us and consequently asked who was the main driver my dad told them it was me and she told us that this could quite possibly invalidate our insurance policy. But my dad asked her to clarify what she meant by main driver and she said it's clarified by who covers most miles. so we explained we miss understood and that my dad drives the car less in time than myself but covers more miles in a shorter time where as I use the car more but don’t cover as many miles. In terms of my GTi first year in my name 0 NCB with 2 claims £1700!!

lupogtiboy
i'm 27, have 5yrs ncb and pay £630 fully comp with protected ncb on an 03 gti thru churchill! really does pay to shop around, and even question ur existing insurance company if the cost has gone up! mine shot up to £900 (27 yrs old!?), so i phoned them, fiddled around with excesses, (now £250, not £200), and it dropped to £630! Amazing!
