Does anyone on here know please if the two transverse brackets seen under my car's centre section serve any functiuonal purpose other than to prevent a dangerous drop-to-the-ground of a broken pipe? Many thanks.

Hello, I’m new to posting in this site but I’ve been visiting for a while, One of my headlights recently failed and I decided I’d rather go the route of putting two new headlights if I can avoid the task of a tear down / reconstruction of my damaged unit. id prefer if they were right hand drive headlights, however if the price is right I wouldn’t turn down Left hand drive headlights, I’m sure I can figure out some modification for the beam. also if anybody has wondered how a GTI looks with normal Lupo headlights I’ve attached a few images of my temporary solution, im using the daylight bulbs as indicators, so it’s a bit sketchy when the full beam is on as it’s hard to see the indicator, because there’s no division in the reflector. anyway, hopefully I can find a more permanent solution on here 🙈👍

Now that I’m getting near to closing a deal on a car I’ve been chasing for a couple of years, it’s time I decided how I’m going to organise the funding. One option is to sell my Gti and use the proceeds towards the ‘new’ car. Alternatively, I’m quite keen on keeping it for my grandson for when he’s old enough to obtain a licence, which is not so very far away now. So I’d like at this point to get an idea of how much interest there might be in my Gti. I imported it from Japan in 2018 where it had been first registered in January 2006 – so it’s a very late production, 6 speed with air conditioning. It is black, all standard except for Pascha seats and wooden gear knob, (I retained the original standard seat material (in excellent condition) in case a future owner might wish to return the seats to the original look). The Momo steering wheel seen in the photographs will be replaced by the original standard Gti leather trimmed wheel. Current mileage is 83,000. There is a file of service history for its time in Japan and a complete record of everything (lots) I’ve done to maintain/improve the car since 2018. That includes a full Dinitrol treatment which I decided on immediately on import as the underside was completely corrosion free, as is often the case with the cars from Japan. Currently, the only body/paint issue is the usual paint film ‘osmosis’ (not unsightly) on the roof spoiler, (which was new in 2019). The car runs perfectly, has had two cambelt/water pump changes during my ownership, and has an MOT to December. If my Gti could be of serious interest to you, please let me know and I’ll be happy to discuss a potential price. (I am located in East Kent).

Lots of positivity in this, but some idiotic comments displaying sheer ignorance. A 2004 car illustrates the article and it's currently on offer at £9,995 at a Newcastle dealer.

I have still got this spoiler, having had previous offers fall through. I was intending to keep it, but now could do with some budget help for a new bodywork project, so I'm re-offering. To see the condition of the spoiler please see here I had previously listed this spoiler - here A buyer indicated that they accepted the quality of the surfaces (which need quite a lot of work) but on receipt claimed the ends were 'severely' damaged in transit, (they hadn't been). I'd not be keen on posting it out and then taking it back, i.e. should anyone want to buy, it'd be on a no-returns basis. Note - the spoiler is without the CHMSL. Having wasted time and money on the previous transaction, I'm prepared to consider any reasonable offer if someone is ready to spend the time on it, (and have a factory spoiler at a big saving.)

I have a set of Lupo GTI headlights they have been made to work on NON GTI Models, they have been converted to HID with a HID ballast kit, They are in all good working order just requires 1 side light bulb £180 or best offer

I Bought some GTI headlights made to fit 1.0, they’ve been working fine for months and not got the problem with them turning off on their selves sometimes it’s just the left light and then sometimes it’s both when the lights turn off I have to turn them off and back on multiple times and they will come back on and if that doesn’t work I have to turn the car off and back on and they light up again. When the lights turn off the side lights sometimes stay on but really dim. Also when the lights turn off you can no longer hear the switches inside the lights clicking when going from low beam to high beam. I have checked the wiring inside the lights they seem fine , the pins inside the connectors had abit of corrosion but I have cleaned them up. Just to mention it only has a cheap £30 ballast, don’t know if that has to do with anything. any help is appreciated, TIA

The original spoiler on my 2006 Gti (ex-Japan) was badly bubbled when I bought the car in 2018. Eventually, I tried to resolve the situation by replacing with a new genuine factory spoiler, and had it painted by a bodyshop which I know to be competent. However, within one year I noticed some micro-blistering on the spoiler and, along with some other cosmetic work, the bodyshop has just re-done it . . . and even only a day or two later, I've got micro- blisters again. I've enquired again about the possibility of wrapping the spoiler, but the prospects are not good, and exact match with L041 is not feasible. A couple of people now have contended that the problem will always recur if new paint is oven dried. Does anyone here have experience please of success with air drying? Many thanks.

I got a 70,000km aluminum door model Lupo GTI. The Lupo had a fault error in the ECU, and a leak from the rear spoiler caused water to collect in the battery pan in the boot room. I used VCDS to clear the error, charge the battery, change the oil, adjust the air pressure and test drive. The drive shaft boots broke, grease splattered, and the engine check lamp turned on again. I identified all the faulty parts of the car and ordered the parts.

Has anyone with a Lupo GTI ever had creaking or rattles or any noise coming from the rear that they've managed to source? Ever since I've had the car I haven't been able to deduce where the noises are coming from. It's probably a bit pointless describing them but one's like a dull rattle which I thought I'd sorted by securing the number plate lights better but it's still there. Then there's a creak which maybe comes from the back of the rear seat. The exhaust is free and never knocks. I can't see anything loose near the battery or tyre inflator etc.

Hi guys, Replaced the exhaust on my Lupo GTi a couple years ago now and the standard exhaust has just be sat in the garage since. Having a clear out, and wondered if anyone would be interested in taking it off my hands and what kinda price they go for? Having been imported from Japan, there isn't much in the way of corrosion from what I recall. Covered about 80-85k KM before it was removed. It is the full exhaust from the cat, but was cut in half when removed, so would need fabricating back together. If anyone is interested, I'll dig it out the garage and get some taken. Collection only from WS15 area, cash on collection. Any other questions, let me know.

I have now accumulated no less than five steering wheels for my Gti and need to reclaim some storage space! So I’m offering the Gti wheel I commissioned from RSW Re-Trimming Ltd last year. Details are as follows: Genuine original equipment Gti wheel Rim thickened and thumb grips added Rim bottom flattened Recovered in smooth black leather with red stitching I fitted this in April 2019 and it was in use on my Gti for just 10 months, with 4,000 miles only covered. Condition is excellent, evidencing the very minimal usage I’m offering this – wheel rim/hub only, not including the centre pad/airbag-see pic 03-04-2019 – at less than half what it cost me. Internal UK Postage will be additional, at £15 Located in East Kent £105

Hello everyone. I am looking to improve the braking efficiency on my Lupo 3L. I understand its not a car that was officially sold in the UK, but I thought you might have some suggested. The Lupo 3L officially weighs 803 Kg. That's about 172 Kg less than the Lupo GTI. My question is: Do any of the brake bits from other VW with bigger brakes bolt onto the Lupo 3L. I have sourced stiffer, shorter springs and Vesa from Tuneko Ltd in Finland is re-mapping my ECU. Any guidance would be welcomed. Thank you.

Hi all, I recently installed the "free floating screen"-style aftermarket "Halo 9" radio from Alpine (ilx-F903d) and I thought I should share some pics from the installation. I'm very happy with it! I wanted a Carplay and Android Auto enabled radio for the GTI but always felt that the 2-din screens were never bigger than my phone enough to justify the cost. The standard radio location is also way too low for the eyes. This radio has a great 9" touchscreen that actually sits way higher than the standard radios and so it makes it a joy to use, and much safer because of the size of text and buttons. As you can see the installation uses only a 1-din slot, which leaves the space underneath free for a storage cubby. Yes you lose quite a lot of the central vents air, but I think of it as having a Up! interior :D The hazard light switch is also fully covered by the screen but still reachable with your thumb. The height is of course adjustable for those who would still prefer more air and easier access to that switch. As drawbacks I'd point out to the not so stellar resolution of the display, although while driving it's not very noticeable. Also the screen can be quite reflective depending on the angle (it's also adjustable). But all in all I love it and I just installed another one on my second car (MX-5 NC).

Hi, Sorry for this random post and request. Could someone please provide a height x width x depth measurement of a Lupo GTI tailgate for me as soon as possible? Lupo's are not common in the US. This measurement is not possible for me to grab locally. We are leaving for a holiday in the EU next week. I need to determine if we will be able fly back (from the EU) with a carefully packaged Lupo GTI tailgate in the hold of the plane and airlines we will be flying. Many thanks in advance for the possible help.

Just saying hi, will ad pics fyi. 55 plate GTI in Black. In family since 2006 & kept completely standard. We have been approached 5/6 times over the last few years to sell e.g. supermarket car park seems the favourite - won't be selling until there's no more petrol in the world and maybe not even then!. A few Q's : One of the last come into the country from DE ? How many GTI's left on the road? The rear spoiler has gone weird, paint flaked off so want to get a replacement spoiler and then fit/paint - any source recommended. Thanks and Hello! from East Herts.
