LiamD
I bought this last week, it's thoroughly un exciting, but it set me back 900 pounds with an MOT till next Spring, and not rattly chains. For a Mk3 it's fairly tidy as far as rust goes.Token picture of Jack's VR6, who lives over the road, probably getting electrocuted while I take this photo.I have actually modified it, look closely for the stubby aerial. We also drilled the airbox tonight, so it now sounds MINT I'm now actually skint for all of July, so coillies won't be on till the end of July.Long term plans, sort what rust I do have, and I'd like an R32 engine sat in the front for next Summer, or a supercharger on this engine. LiamD
Just a little update... to stop the thread falling away,Coilovers turned up today, but top mounts were being an absolute c-unit, so my mate Murph is gonna do them next Saturday.4 Avon ZV3's have been fitted, now handles sooooo much better, needs rear bushes doing though.Exhaust has been de-catted.Vento front end is now in my possession... Hopefully, it'll all be screwed together by Saturday or Sunday.

leigh_harty
VR6's are about the only mk3 golf id have and hopefully have one soon, going to view one on the weekend. Is yours a highline model by chance?
BenLAST
Can't wait to see this, hopefully look so much different to every other mk3 out there.
nicgun
Is yours a highline model by chance?Golf VR6 Highline's only came in Black or Mauve (very dark purple) and had either black or purple (mulberry I think they called it) leather, had a black one in 1997, was a fabulous car.You can get some VR6's which were ordered with Highline spec (leather, heated seats etc.) but if they are not black or purple then they're not an original Highline (should also have a small highline badge too). leigh_harty
ahh cool. you learn something new everyday golfs have alot of potential aslong as you stay away from the common route, so easy to get carried away modding and styling and theres pages after pages of ideas/insperation from the many vw mags available. Hope progress comes fast and aplentyLeigh

LiamD
Lovely! The red looks great in the latest pics Thanks hun nice motor were you in 5th at 25 with your foot off the gas to get that mpg from a VR?Coming down a slip-road with the clutch in, when it was safe for someone else to take a photo. I actually saw 37.2 later on but couldn't get a pic. The MPG is nowhere near as bad as people say it is. Sat cruising at 90-100 I can get 30mpg. iTomKelly
I can get about 38/39 cruising at 70 in mine! As long as there's no traffic making me slow down. Average around town is about 26.

LiamD
I haven't updated this in a while, but here goes...Not a lot has been done visually, to be honest it's had a hammering over winter! It's had a new clutch, new coilpacks, and loads of other random bits that added up to a very large amount. The rest of the money I pissed away on Newcastle Brown Ale and stupid road trips. In Dover, in January/FebHmm.Back on English shores with Dave's Leon FRNotice what is missing (not the sill trim!)More tyre related woes. Getting new track ends and the sump welding Lastly, here's what a very similiar Golf VR6 sounds like, on a private road, a few months ago. The speed limit was not exceeded apparently.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGTOJJftqusIt's a lot more track slag inside. If anyone's at York on Easter Monday, or GTi Spring Fest next week, come say hi, I don't bite.
LiamD
The VR did me well over the weekend! The VR and Brigsy's Renault Extra VanMPG was mint. The end result was good though (excuse the reaction time)Only quicker than a Mk2 20vT and various other big money hot hatches there on the day I would've won my class but one guy was running nitrous, but his car blew up at the end of the day, and I still bettered his time in the free for all at the end so I feel I won on the moral high-ground lol.I'll get more pics up as they appear, cos I was knocking out some decent burnouts during the day. LiamD
just a little update since i have done a few bits and bobsend result... sound deadening in the front is now out mind.CL spec rear lightswent to go and pick up a car from Hull last Saturday. Hit a flock of birds. back to ze dragstrip and one new PB. Lot more consistent mind, which is good, and my new front grilleAnd a video in action. Excuse the pretty poor 1st > 2nd gear change. Yes, the VR won. On the bad side I've cracked my rear engine mount doing 2nd gear burnouts. On the plus side I'll be getting a progressive controller ready for gas next month 13s here I come (maybe 12s if I believe the optimists).
