Jowey
mothers 1.0 seat was ridiculously expensive to insure for me but the lupo 1.4 isn't so bad 130 a month + 400 excess .. (which she paid for) .. i earn about £200-£250 a month working part time so it works out okay

Im insured with admiral, but im not sure if my named drivers on my policy gets the NCB, might just be for new customers Only thing is, getting someone else to take out insurance on the car means the car must be in that persons name too. Although if they find out that you are the main driver .........Its always best but more costly to do it right from the start and get it in your own name Edited March 1, 2008 by cardaft

nfbr
I was quoted £6060.89p for an 'R' Reg Seat Arosa 1.0 when I was 17.

Although if they find out that you are the main driver .........Its always best but more costly to do it right from the start and get it in your own name NCB as named drivers are only valid with that insurer so you are tied into them and can guarantee that price of premium wont be competitive with someone else with 'genuine' NCB so think I agree with cardaft, except maybe for year 1. If you manage to go 1 year driving with no accidents or convictions (even as a named driver) it brings your premium down a lot in my experience. Then set off on your own and start building your NCB.I started driving at 18 (broke my shoulder when I was 17 so couldnt have lessons for ages!). I was with my mum for year 1 but now I'm on five years NCB (at 24) and only paying £230 for the TDI.

CasperGTI
Elephant. There is a good way to get your quote down with them.Do your quote as it should be, then when it comes to adding additional drivers, put as many middle aged women you know with a clean licence.E.g your mum, friends mum, mums friends etc etc.... Your be suprised how much it goes down. I think its because theres less of a chance for you to be driving it as theres more drivers. Works a treat....My mates brother did this, hes got a 1.9gti 205, hes 19 with one years NCB. He was getting quotes much like you in the reigon for £2000+. He went on to elephant and got it for £1200, just by adding my mum and his mum to the additional drivers. there never going to drive it, but how does the insurance company know that?Give it a goHeres an example for a GTi at the age of 19 with no NCB:This is before you add two middle aged women (about 45-50):This is after you add them:Pretty good huh?John Edited March 2, 2008 by Casper1496
LiamD
Hyperformance.crap service, but cheap.Try TPFT too. Less incentive to drive like a cock knowing you won't get any money when you bounce it off trees.

Gibbeth!
Definetly try Quinn! Theyve been cheap for quite a few people I know with different circumstances. Also, try Barclays, I was with them my first year driving.

Matty_Gti
theres no way i would ever be paying 2.5k to insure a 1l. i would deffinetly be going on a parents policy, it might not be the best way and you will staill haveto pay a large premium when you do insure on your own but i just cant justify paying nearly as much as the cars worth to insure it for a year!
