Your post above is a huge contradiction, you say it won't need £600 worth of coilovers to "keep it on the road" but in the same breath also say you'd happily pay out for air ride which would be probably at least double the price and not handle as well. Hmm...

Proper coilovers cost that much, deal with it.

The new pedal boxes won't break, they're designed slightly differently so don't have the weak spot weld that usually fails. It's a cheap part from VW but they'll charge you for 9 hours labour to fit it, if you're handy with a spanner (which you sound to be) you could do it in a weekend.

Lorries and cars are essentially the same, just bigger bits, bigger bolts and lots more gears.

It isn't a gasket, it's sealant.

The light will stay on until you get the fault codes read and it sounds like your coilpack could be the problem.

I've seen a Lupo with this kit on it. I can confirm it looks just as rubbish attached to the car as it does on the garage floor.

Take the Lupo. Ignore the comments that the roads will "destroy" your car, it's a load of rubbish, roads are terrible everywhere! Get a roof box and you'll have tonnes of room. I moved from Scotland to Salisbury with pretty much everything I own in a Lupo and a roof box and I've done the journey back and fourth many times in a 1.4 and a GTI.

It's just bog standard gasket sealant, they have special bits of kit for putting on the bare minimum in the factory, that's why it'll be so thin!

I'm getting the impression your friend might be getting fined for parking there rather than for taking photographs, but as has already been stated it's impossible to tell without less information.
