    Rear Axle

Whoa - that's savage Has it been a Dons car all its life? My Mk4 suffers with the ridiculas amout of salt they use in Edinburgh. dread to think how much they use in Aberdeen
  3. I just dont tell about the big stuff, if mine knew how much I spent on my LSD and gearbox refresh she would go completely nuts! Wife gets frustrated with the number of packages i get for the Lupo. The other day I got some standard rear Pagid flexi hoses (just for emergency use till I run the lines in the cabin) only a tenner from ECP, so if I had been challenged I would have got away with that -lucky most of the standard stuff is cheap, awful shame the fun stuff is in a different league price wise. I appreciate you have yet to get your Lupo running, interested in the ignition management you have, have you looked at the ME software? I ask as ME211 management is one of the ones I am thinking of when I go to bodies -But I keep flipping to Omex and now Megasquirt is also distracting me aswell!
  4. Good work - I still see sound deadening in the pics, there is a good few Kg's you can loose there, need to do the same on mine
  5. Sausage -They turned up yesterday, all sizes in MM ID of the 90 degree metal bend is 6.93 OD of the flex hose is 17.84 Adaptor ID's: M14 7.2 - M16 7.65 Let me know if you need more sizes
  6. Sausage - I have not received the adaptors yet , when they turn up Ill happily measure any dimension you wish - plenty of time, it will be a few weeks before I start ripping the Lupo apart
  7. I went 3/8th... but remember I am deleting my power steering, the pipe is a vent to link the 2 connections up. Basically I am doing a DIY version of: https://eaaengineering.com/products/mk4-golfjetta-gas-diesel-bew-de-power-steering-conversion Granted its not as pretty, but all in a lot less cost than the $89 + postage from trumpville and then HMRC taking a chunk as well If I don't like manual I can put it back - will try it in stages, initially drained system for some mixed driving, then its either hoses back on or hoses, pump & reservoir stripped. Just got to source a shorter belt to drive just the alternator, that size is listed in another thread somewhere buried on here.
  8. yeah the ball joint was completely wrecked, just got a couple of turns on the nut and it just started spinning and spinning. the ball joint just was not coming out of the hub - cut off disc sorted it. One thing I have noticed is Gti ones seem to have a lozenge hole behind the joint - hard to see on my old ones, but pictures of new ones above its clear as day: Just checked my new ones, both the same - could that be the confirmation of Gti ball joints?
  9. Got the hose today - glad I went for the 500mm one, 250 would have been too tight - what a lot of literature they sent with it

    Traffic

Heart sank for the guy when the same pita bikes got past him. So many slow Renaults!
  11. Rich - Rods Gti specific, but are tie rod end same across range?
  12. If there is a gap between the hatch and the spoiler you could try sawing through the bonding to remove the spoiler. When they take out windscreens they used a braided line - they used to use metal cheese wire, until they worked out it cause rust where it stripped the paint. Closest I have seen is fly fishing backing.
  13. If you can afford to keep the Lupo off the raod, you can strip them down to just shafts and get the them powder coated.
  14. Cheers Sausage - with your links I put together a 3/8 kit with 90 elbows for £15 if it turns out to be rubbish I wont feel so bad having spent so little, - well at least that's what I will be telling myself whilst re-installing the PS pipes
  15. Nice cheap fix Sausage - where did you source your stuff from? I'm looking to try deleting the power steering and fit a loop of hose onto the rack, but I keep getting distracted by AN fittings on Ebay, your stuff looks spot on for my job aswell
  16. I had Yellow CC seats for a while in my Mk3, even at 6am they were bright! only lasted 4 months before a set of black ones replaced them
  17. it is on the end of the block above the gearbox. This is the one off a Polo AVY I currently have on Gumtree:
  18. Yeah, I have a few bits of Bergen stuff, I would say it punches above its weight for the price. What you need to know Rich, delivered with the USA pro set -that BTW I've had no bother so far with - came a flier that was introducing USA Pro as the re-branded Bergen! I have a cheap set of splines years ago, they were not even heat treated, gave up using them after 2 sheared off in the head of the bolt -think they are now land fill.
  19. Dont know the size, but know the type, they go by a few names: Spline drive 12 point Double hex I got these recently off ebay - they are needed in a few places such as gearbox, drive shafts
  20. In order to reduce the stress of clip to glass holder - I tried sourcing some some pre-assembled of ebay - typically they came without clips! Is there no way to re-force them?
  21. Thanks guys - I wasn't wanting to go that far just now. Plan was over winter, to re-build the beam, just wanted keep it rolling with the good weather, so just replace the bushes + not mess with brakes. If it is fully off I may as well bring the task forward, along with front subframe. I will have a go at dropping the beam with hoses attached, on Mk4 you do one side at a time, just undo the clips holding the flexi to the chassis bracket and pull the beam forward, there is just enough room to remove and re-install. But just in case it gets messed up I have ordered a pair of rear flexi's from euro's - less than £11 pounds delivered - Lemforder ones too. Got to ask if rear Lupo brakes are nicer or just as painful to bleed as the ones on Mk4 Golf?
  22. Yes - suspect the rear drivers side bush collapsed, beam twisted clockwise on passenger bush. Evidence is rear wheels are both offset to left side with drivers rear further back in arch Oh and round-abouts at 50 can be interesting with rear wheel steer!
  23. As title - I have done this on Mk3 & Mk4 Golfs -it is possible to keep the brake flexi attached and hard lines un-clipped allows just enough room to change the bushes -Is this possible on the Lupo or is the beam flexi too tiny?
