  1. A parts washer would have been awesome for doing it. I did have a can of carb cleaner but it didn't last that long and didn't really work for breaking down the gunk, I found that it was better to use it after the majority of the crap had been taken out. Then I used the carb crap just to kinda get rid of the remnants and restore everything to a nice shiny finish.
  2. Take the fuse out before you shove any metal items into the fag lighter. You could think about removing the centre console and changing the lighter unit itself.

    Arosa tdi sump

Seventy quid from VAG. There are no cheap replicas. There isn't really a second hand market on these. Unless you want to buy my second hand one ? Does leak a bit and does contain liquid metal.

    Need a new speedo

Sarcasm asides, these things don't really break. It's probably a case of the speedo drive in the gearbox has stopped working.
  5. When I had my TDI apart a while ago there was so much gunge in the intake and EGR it was unreal, whole thing had to come off and then the inside of the head had to be cleaned out the best I could as well. Used an entire blue roll (stolen) to get rid of it all. Now I keep an eye on it all. Paying £630 to get it all cleaned, I'd have been tempted to bang a can of easy start in it and let it burn itself clean.
  6. I made it into Stockton, got a Parmo tonight and got out unnoticed.
  7. Everyone slates them, but having actually driven one, they're not bad at all. Just a bit ugly. If we got the Crossfox, Ray would want one.
  8. Not a fan of the cap, they sit too high. Looking forward to checking your insides though.

    Need a new speedo

Why do you need a new speedo ?
  10. It could be a multitude of things but the collapsed pipe is a VERY good starting place.
  11. A Bowden catch cable. They're 9.40 from vag.
  12. Have you ever seen a rebuild yeild results though ? I'd be more inclined to replace.
  13. I use Quantum 10/40, cost eleven quid for five litres from TPS.
  14. Change the oil and see how it goes, It's fifteen quid for an oil and filter change, you never know.
  15. That's not good. I use 10/40 in my AVY engined car. I'd suggest a complete oil & filter change whilst hoping for the best.
  16. Showing it the love ! I'm going to festively hammer the crap out of my Polo, with a hammer. I may wash the loop though.
  17. It's £20 for a set at ECP, not exactly breaking the bank to just replace them ?
  18. If you want to be told what you don't want to hear, replace the engine. buy a long block, get a tool kit and jump in.
  19. You can never go wrong with a good service.
  20. Having only driven a one litre Polo, I can say they're not very fast.
  21. if it's not misfiring, coil pack should be reet. Oil & filters all round. Sparks and HT leads. Chuck some injection cleaner into the fuel tank. check lights, tyre pressures and clean the boot out.
