  1. Suspension pics please! (In a different thread)
  2. Cable ties are good for temporary suspension bodging. A load strapped together with some anti chafing rag will get you home. Amazingly strong...
  3. It's like- I need to get home, so i need them bearings to go in my cv joints. Now that's five, where's the sixth... Excellent!
  4. EGR valves all go wrong... The solenoids that control them not as frequently. At least they're only pennies to buy.
  5. Wow that is mint for a nearly 20 YO car! Nice one.
  6. I can't remember if you're meant to clean and regrease the nylon sliders in the front brake calipers or leave them dry? The sliding tube is stainless and nylon bearings usually don't need grease. But should I grease them? If yes, with which type of grease?
  7. I did wonder! I wish at least one of my Lupos looked that good. Are there many Lupos left on swiss roads?
  8. Found this ad, but it kinda gives the general idea- https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=95-2PnLKVA0
  9. On one of my strip cars, I used to get the wheels bolt hole balanced- similar issue to you I'm thinking. Think old beetle wheels- they have no central round hole. The jig is accurately fitted between two cones on the machine balancing shaft to centralise it. Then the bolt rig with taper points rests in the bolt holes (you need the right rig for your bolt pattern), and a screw locking plate locks the wheel very securely to the bolt rig. Then balance as normal, once you've set your wheel centre line point and rim points. Easy and very accurate. Probably more accurate than using the regukar spindle method. But not everyone has that setup.... used in racing.
  10. I remember wheels in the 50's were discs with hub caps, 60's were all Pepper pot G60's style. In the seventies, they were Enzos (or many thin spokes), 80's split rims then three spokes, 90's were five spokes, 00's Teddy's and wierd combos and now a reverse cross of custom hot rod rims mixed with split rims. Rivets everywhere. It's definitely trends and fashion. My personal favs are the chunky looking 5 spoke mags like you get on Starsky and Hutch car. Not that they'd fit a loop. Now, how about wire spoke wheels? Nurse, bring me my pipe and slippers.
  11. Welcome to CL! yes, true. Pics please. Even of the old 109 in pieces... On the SDI, the alternator is no fun. Or the steering pipes. Or the top door hinges.
  12. Please please. All your knowledge needs to be shared before it's too late! Oh I dunno- just thought I'd say that (to answer your question..!). You know that the UK Lupo market is now at a turning point where many cars are now becoming no longer cost effective to repair through garages. I'd reckon that about 70% of owners are now enthusiasts, so you won't be losing out... How about- do a step by step text guide, and I'll follow it taking pics as I go?
  13. Is that a crack or reflection on the right light cluster?
  14. If it balances on the machine, then the only thing left is bent hub or spindle... the bolt circle on a wheel is very accurate.
  15. Please write a how to... yeah once you've lifted the door off (loose grub screws), you still need to loosen that one bolt done up from the inside. But a little violence wouldn't hurt i don't think. Hinge might slide forwards by just a mm with a few taps from a persuader. I'll try it next time I'm doing door cards.
  16. But seriously, how long does it take you? Takes me about 5h to remove dash. Worst bit is around the fuse box. Then putting it all back again- once the loom has changed shape- is tricky.
  17. Right. See you in the morning so you can do mine...
  18. Yeah but he does it to protect the forum... I guess if some kid learns a new word on here, then starts spurting the same lingo at the dinner table, then mum hears it- she'd be in touch with OFCOM. An immediate take down notice would be issued while they investigate over a series of months by which time we've all gone our own ways. And I don't think @MattyB makes mouch money out it, if any. I hate to say it, but I do find the continuous cat and mouse game that a few posters play amusing to watch. More really, what they can get away with before the chop....
  19. LOL! ha ha ha! I haven't had such a good laugh for ages. What is going on between you guys behind the scenes? Ray...? LOL!
  20. What is the hourly rate at a dub dealer these days? I reckon about 15h total labour to swap that top hinge. I'd take the inside route and remove the dash. The bumper is the bit I wouldn't fancy removing...

    lupo tdi

Damn. You spotted my offer. I was thinking of selling the bits for at least £800 then returning car to normal. Then sell that for maybe 600 for a quick sale... easy money.... ok, to keep @Rich happy. I'll pay a grand with everything.

    lupo tdi

If it comes with everything, I'll pay £800.

    Non starting TDI

Good to know. Glad you found it! So can you reproduce the fault simply by pulling the relay out when it's running? As in, does it just die suddenly, or does it splutter then conk out? I'm surprised that there's no pressure sensor on the fuel supply circuit- running it dry would eventually kill the gallery feed pump. There must be some kind of pressure limiting device, similar to how petrol injection galleries work (@60psi), before it gets pumped up to 18,000 psi (or some silly high pressure).
  24. He might get points...
