  1. @oprn , what engine code do you have?
  2. Does it make a sound when you leave the lights on and remove the ignition key? it should...
  3. Hmm, sounds like a power supply to engine cut out thing... Not sure if the Jap cars have the same setup, but, there's a power relay that provides 12v to the ECU and engine loom when ignition is on. They are known to fail (contacts give up). Vibration (a lot on your roads I'm guessing!), can make things happen faster/sooner. It's usually next to/behind the fuse box. Simply unplugs- about US$5 on fleabay. But ignition switches/key barrel can cause same symptoms. And they are also a known thing. But then the dash goes blank for a moment, which is the tell-tale.
  4. @swaggerdon , I can call the spring factory I listed above and ask them for you...? I'm also asking about having some new springs made for the back of my SDI. i can't get them here in the UK with normal/soft rating. Uprated or lowering is easy here. Then I can ask them if they could make the same springs shorter, but with slightly higher rating - and it would be ok on your TUV. They could supply the certificate.
  5. German TÜV would fail that without an engineer's report... In fact most of the 'alterations' we do over here need paperwork in Germany. @swaggerdon , how much work is it (papers) to change your brake system to a bigger one like G60's?
  6. Willkommen! You'll need to change the springs. There is no other way. Check out http://www.shock-factory.co.uk/2.25-springs.html Do you also visit https://lupoclub.de/forum/ Any pics of your car?
  7. Looks a like the 085, but the bellhousing angle is shifted so the engine must be leaning forward? On the SDI, the engine leans back a few degrees. There is something i read in the self study guide about the half shafts being different, because the diff flange position is in a different position. More in line... I wonder if it'd be possible to adapt the 3L box to be operated by foot clutch. The shifter would be the same as normal.... then you'd just need throttle control. That's the problem.
  8. The engine and gearbox controller are linked... not a simple "bung in a manual box to convert it" jobbie. But did just get me thinking- if you left the shifter sensor in N, you can happily rev the engine through it's entire range. If you could do that, would it be possible to trick the ecu, even when the car is under load to make it power a manual box? I don't know enough about these lovely 3L engines. Aren't they similar to other 3 pot TDIs??? As in, could you use the ECU from a TDI?
  9. Yeah, we'll help you get it going again. Can't waste a uk registered 3L!
  10. Even if there are a few maintenance issues or the usual things, that's a nice car. Well worth the money. Nice one.
  11. Probably true even if salt has corroded all the ali bits away... But in a thousand years someone will find an SDI in a cave somewhere and it'll start first time and go like it had just been parked
  12. I 100% agree with @Sausage. There should never EVER be a rush when buying a used car. Unless very rare or something. My guess is you've given them a holding deposit. Make up an excuse to do more research before following through... let us know hiw you got on
  13. Interesting read... knew a fair amount already, but bloomen heck it's about as complicated a car as the A8 or Phaeton... lots more to go wrong compared to the SDI. And all that to save just 150kg. Might save money on the fuel bill, but hey, the repair bills will cost a lot more than the average lupo. So all in all, probably not worth it now it's becoming an old car. Unless you have all the tools. And a shed full of spares. Even the wheel bearings need special this and that... I wonder how much extra it cost compared to the SDI when new.
  14. I bend them... easiest method.
  15. Been looking... got a link? Magnesium for christ's sake!?! That's a bit spesh' just for a tailgate...
  16. Seriously?! Wow, didn't think magnesium was pressable as it's so strong. The 3L must be a special car.
  17. Nice, even fitted with front fogs... High 'S' spec, with pop out rear windows. Yeah, I'd get that rear tailgate swapped. Doesn't look right. I'm guessing someone reversed the car with the back open while in a garage or during a reverse park? Curious to know why it was swapped. Check that the rear wash & wipe, anti fog and central locking works on it. Check the key is the same as the front doors. Things to check on SDI. Yeah, you're right- cam belt. Pain to swap, but should be done now as vdub suggest every 3-4 years, so overdue, along with water pump. There's a how to do the SDI cam belt for your mechanics on here somewhere- so they don't mess it up. Leave the fuel filter- they last the life of the car. Air filter. Tyres. Oil and filter. Gearbox oil (important!). Check the clutch pedal position- should be perfectly level with the brake pedal at rest, as the pedal boxes are a very common failure. If clutch lower than brake pedal, then the pedal box needs replacing with the uprated type. Check leccy windows and central locking (often go wrong). Once you have it, disable the EGR system, for cleaner emissions and even better economy. Get two keys as spares are v expensive.
  18. Welcome to club lupo! yeah sounds good, and that really is "very" low milage. Price about right if interior is immaculate. Show us a few pics of your new machine.

Yeah, always good to clean out the plenum and trumpets. Make sure nothing drops into any of the inlet ducts in the head. keep the two thin vacuum pipes disconnected (and blocked off) to keep EGR disabled for the time being. You dont need a blanking plate. Only vacuum to brake servo. last thing- plug the oil breather hole into the plenum (i used a bicycle handlebar end plug and some silicone), and rotate the vent pipe 90 degrees clockwise and connect a flexi hose or piece of 20mm electrical conduit to divert the oil fumes down towards the road, under the car. I used cable ties to secure everything down. On mine after two years, inlet plenum still looking shiny and new and extra bonus is economy has got better and emissions lower.
  20. Yeah, any lupo tailgate will fit like @Rich says. You'll just need the two holes for the spoiler, which you could drill. You'll need to prearrange hold space with the airline before you turn up at the airport, with your "oversize" luggage. It'd be easier to crate it up if you don't want to risk any damage. Got any pics? Would love to see a Lupo with an American background! oh and welcome to club lupo :)
  21. Never worked on one, but from your description, sounds like a supply from controls board/switch issue. Might be the switch? Swap the motor for a headlamp bulb and then see if you can get it to light up...
  22. Like @Sausage says, could be tyres? Not much else left... swap fronts and backs over?
  23. Yeah that's a standard vdub fan controller... they are fixable if they go wrong, but you need to be careful when you pull them to bits as the pins are molded into the wiring inside. Expensive to replace too. Should be connected to fan else fan will never ever run. The main switching relay that supplies power to the fan is inside this thing. Very curious to know what happened... just had a thought- follow the wiring from the fan back. Should end up at this unit.
