treblet
Sadly aftermarket HID kits will be made illegal after next year unless fired with headlamp washers and self levelling head lamps...However they are far superior to any halogen bulb. mccrindle
that's a shame! i've seen quite a lot of threads on the web about them being made illegal and thats why i thought it'd be worth asking if there was alternatives. Hopefully something will be created to as good a standard as hid's to overcome the problem (:
DarkStryder360
Alternative to HID's are normal lights I believe.

puggled
Do you want them for appearance or for being able to see?Osram Nightbreakers are great in dry weather, light up signs from miles away, etc. I'm not so keen on them in the rain though. mccrindle
i'll have a look at these osram nightbreakers just after something that offers a similar product to hid's
puggled
The only thing similar to HIDs are HIDs. No 55w bulb will give you the same output as a 35w HID. You can get bulbs that are similar colour. Thats why I was asking if it was the output or the style you were after.
mccrindle
not sure to be honest, i just guessed if the style was similar so would the output.
Bickerton
I used to use 100watt rally bulbs, not meant to but aslong as they are alligned properly its not an issue
buxton
if you want 8k colour of hids search led h4 headlights
treblet
not sure to be honest, i just guessed if the style was similar so would the output. The light is generated in a totally different way, halogen bulbs work essentially by passing a voltage through a wire which glows white hot. High Intensity Discharge (HID) bulbs on the other hand work by passing a super high voltage (approx 23,000V to start them) through a gas which in turn fluoresces. This is the reason that HID's need a ballast unit to start them and why when turning them on the flash brightly at first, then dim slightly and then get brighter as the gas warms up and the voltage output by the ballast turns down. puggled
+90 have a short enough life, but +120? Must be pushing the filaments awfy far. Also I'm sure there is a reason Philips and Osram don't quote such high ratings. Like you don't get that in reality.
