Dec
alright guys so iv just acquired a second Gti, what can I say I just love them !!but anyway my mind is puzzled as the new one (2001 originally 5 speed) is cheaper tax than my 6 speed (2002) :s the 6 speeds co2 is 178 and 6 months tax is like 115 the 2001 Gti has co2 of 170 which means 6 months tax is £104Am I being robbed on my 2002 Gti ? Let me no what your co2's are on ure log book as my 2002 is also down as a saloon under body type :sCheers Dec

Verity
its the same with the mkV polo GTIs. the very early ones have a slightly lower tax band then the later made ones (they were only made for 2 years :/ 2000-2001)

rapidebrothers
They all sound expensive to me! You cant beat a TDI at £30 for 12 months!!
Nicki
GTI's registered before the change over (which was 1 March 2001 as Mike has already mentioned) are taxed on engine capacity, not CO2 and actually work out more expensive - mine was registered Feb 2001 and was over £200 to tax. It's probably different emissions due to the different gearing/gearbox between a 5 speed and a 6 speed?
