Width depends on the offsets, think 7 is a safer bet, but people have had 8's on here in 15" 'GTi T' has 7x16"
liam_c
I got 15x8 not sure on offset but tyres still rub quite bad in the arches with 45 profile tyres.
melonman
Ive got 15x8s running 195/45s, scrubbingggg a little bit
PaperWeight1
If it's for performance then 15x6.5" or 15x7". Close to standard size butlighter. You can probably drop the offset a bit for a wider track, not sure how far you can go - depends how low you are and how hard you're going to drive.I know Rota's aren't popular on here but slipstreams are fairly light or superleggeras, ultraleggeras, rota GT3's etc.
Naif
I nearly posted something along these lines up earlier.I'm guessing 16x7 should fit fine in GTi arches? ET 49 I think.Considering buying alloys for my current car that I could carry over to my GTi when I finally purchase one.
PaperWeight1
Standard GTi wheels are 6.5" aren't they?So adding 0.5" by going to 7" you'll want to drop the ET by 0.25" compared with standard (since ET is from centre line).ET43 is standard - 6mm (0.25") = ET37. So you'd want to be around there...

Really need 195/40 tyres to work on a GTIEdit.. You would have 12mm less clearence to the strut. Edited January 20, 2010 by 99hjhm
Naif
I'd get them on 40's for the GTi definitely. It's needed to keep the speedo reading accurately too iirc? What's "clearance to the strut" related to? Noob question probably
Philplop
Means the gap between the back of the wheel and the suspension.

Naif
It's half 12 and I've already learnt something worthwhile. Cheers
Mike_M
I have 7.5 x 16 ET 35 with 195/40/16 and they are a perfect fit and are the same rolling radius as the original 15's so the speedo is accurate.
Mike_M
Here is a pic of my first 16" rims..........same spec:
JamesU
I didnt read the thread tbh...But if Al got 16's on a non gti and pulled it off well. Then theoretically a GTI should be able to pull of 22" spinners.Depends on the wheel though, Bathurts are 15's and they look good, but then i've seen some 16's look very good. ley
I have a set of 16x7" ET40 Rota gt3's on mine with 195 40s fitted though ther is the odd rub at the arches so i will replace the tyres with a 35 profilethis should solve any problems. Mike_M
The ET40 is the issue I think. If it was ET35 (add a 5mm spacer) you would have no probs as my spare 16x7 ET35 with the same tyre is fine and gives even more clearance that the 7.

As far as I know, the narrowest width 16" tyre that comes in 35 profile is a 215/35/16.Is it rubbing the arches or the arch liners?

Mike_M
He would be rubbing the inside arch liner on ET40 and almost full lock. Et 35 would give that extra clearance and clear perpectly with a couple of mm spare
vworks41
I've always liked Mo's. Very strong and good caliper clearance as well.I'd go for 7x15's for best cornering, but 16's are a good compromise between looks and handling
