NOCK
I thought the GTi had traction control?
jon_273
Probably down to rubbish tyres. The GTI has EDL (Electronic Differential Lock), but not traction control.
bossjohnc
Unless you drive an LHD GTI, which does have ESP.Agree with the tyres.

Or just the front pair? You can get some very dencent fronts for that kind of money, but that won't go too far if you want to buy 4..... Philplop
I've never had any problem with spinning the wheels really. Maybe it's just that you're still used to the Sport and you have to adjust your pulling away method a little bit? I just got 4 Goodyear Eagle F1's in 195/45/15 fitted for £61 each. Brilliant tyres. Toyo T1-R's are a little bit cheaper, should be able to get a full set fitted for around £200.
99hjhm
Less gas when pulling away??Best tyres that wont spin... lol, Goodyear F1's or Toyo's.. Others might say Rainsports, but they look horrid! But I would go for 205/45's, less spinning???
s3boy
i wanted all 4, philplop, what size tyres do you have on your gti in your sig? i want to go that low! i wanted all 4 so gonna see if i can stretch to the goodyears Edited October 19, 2009 by s3boy
99hjhm
Those are 16" pork 928 rims on Phill's car.
Philplop
I can't fault the Toyo's either, really. I've had them before. They're 165/40/16's in my sig. Not ideal if you want to drive very quickly though.
jon_273
Unless you drive an LHD GTI, which does have ESP.However, ESP does not do the same job as Traction Control!EDIT: it could be because you now have some torque Edited October 19, 2009 by jon_273
s3boy
i have heard good things about Vredestein SPORTRAC 3, they are going for roughly 60 a tyre on mytyres, about £5 more than goodyears, i might take the risk and try them out, i want to go as low as possible with the coilovers...so will see what happens
99hjhm
Try them, nobody else has.
Defcon5
I have the Sportrac3s! Good in my opinion, however I paid about £50 fitted each. They are rather noisy though, a lot of squeal. If you can get the F1s cheaper, then I would get them tbh (Although T1-Rs in 205 section may offer more grip than a F1 in 195)
PaperWeight1
You'll be able to spin any tyres in the 'wrong' conditions with 'incorrect' driving style.Learn how to feel the traction and feather the throttle if you must rag it in low gears. SamGTi
I got four 195/45/15 Toyo T1-R brand new, think they cam to 142£ - and a mate fitted them.Steal.
CasperGTI
I have a really big problem with wheelspin in 1st, 2nd and 3rd.......I really cant work out why, or how to stop it...
s2000king
The tyres i use are Yokohama S-drive 195 45 R15 and they are the best tyre i have ever had the pleasure of using and i haven't used anything different since. Reasonably priced as well, if you shop around a bit then you could get them within your price range. People probably won't agree with me, but i think they are good. Stick like glue!!! Cheers, James
