I think the slim was built to bring production costs down so in the future they can lower prices more and make it affordable. I personally prefer my shiny darth with 320gb hard drive. The buttons on the new slim to turn on and eject disk are actually buttons and aren't touch sensitive like mine. And also no installing different OS' but I don't care about that. I am looking forward to the update that allows you to sync a Bravia tv to your ps3 enabling you to control certain functions with your tv remote. So happy I chose a Sony tv now.
