Hello,

My name is Hannah and i'm from Swindon, Whey.

I drive a 1.4 16v Lupo, my first car and i love her to death, i have a question actually if any of you enthusiasts can help me!

I want to know about my cambelt, When i should change it and roughly how much it would be. I know that when that blows i need a new engine.

Millage is about 70'000 Any ideas?

Book says 60,000 or 4 years, but VW/SEAT changed that to 40,000 or 4 years.

I am assuming yours was done, but I would check the service history to be sure.

After initial I think its 40,000 or 4 years. I'm hoping you have a stamp at around 40k, or maybe 60k. As discussed on here regularly, worth getting you're water pump replaced at the same time.

I paid £280 at my local VW specialist, but that was annual service, MOT and cambelt, tensioner and waterpump on the 1.0MPi 8valve Arosa.

The way my mileage is going the GTi will need it at the end of the year.

 It will anyhow as it'll be 4 years old on December 12.

Welcome!

PS forgot to say: that car looks mint! Nice and clean and shiney!

I've looked through its service history and can't find anything about the cambelt, only new brake pads and tyres.

I must say that's a good price for your Arosa, i got quoted around £400 but i think that's because i have a bigger engine? - I'll take that on board about the water pump. It's due its MOT & Service at the end of this month so I’ll phone up VW and see what they say.

The sticker was for discount at a local garage the previous owner went to - i haven't kept it on as i wont be using the same garage, it's miles away!

Thanks for the welcome :)

Cured my fear of roundabouts living here, i tend to avoid the magic roundabout or if i need to use it i just plough over it, or go around the outside like a poof :)

My favourite colour before i even saw the car, it was destined to be mine heh.

water pump is easy replaced when doing cam belt as it has to come off anyhows... 400 quid sounds about right from a dealers unless you know of any vw specialists that could do the work for you instead?

welcome aboard.. :D

Welcome...

Cam belt, & Tensioners should be done every 40k or 4 years (which ever is soonest). It used to be 60k or every 6 years but the tensioners started failing early. For some odd reason VW decided to make plastic water pumps which FAIL!

40k - Cam belt, tensioners & water pump

80k - Cam belt, tensioner

120k - Cam belt, tensioner & water pump

After you have your water pump done first it wont need doing next time round because VW opened a can of brain cells and started making metal water pumps again.

Only for some models it would seem, i think the TDi still has plastic ones

Nice design, VW ;)

I did some phoning round today and they want £350 for the cam belt.

I need to book an MOT pretty soon as it runs out this month, i want to do it with VW and it's going to cost £50 plus more if anything is wrong with it.

Meh i hate money, specially when your as skint as me on a monthly basis.

Join the club. And the only reason I'm in that club is because my Sport (until a month ago) had everything wrong with it. Now I've been though all the common faults I can put my feet up and watch my bank account grow bigger.

my bf got a quote for a cambelt for £400 as well.

Wicked, take some picks :D

My car failed its MOT on wed on it's tyres so i got all new ones, going to have to do the cam belt next month, the guy quoted me £150 but i think that's cause my dad had a say in it, what with new tyres and stuff.

I think he flashed his badge :D
