Sarah_Diamond
ok, i've officially decided to do the stupidest thing ever!I've just done a car insurance quote on a 2002 (51, 02,52) Lupo GTi, valued at £5000 with diamond car insurance - parked on the driveway, £350 voluntary excess (it's got £250 compulsory coz i'm 22), immobiliser and NO MODSI've always thought the insurance would be bonkers, but having just checked it in a bid to prove to my boss that girl's car insurance is heaps better than bloke's. I've been quoted £715.83!!!! --- this is a 10month bonus accelerator policy, the 12 month policy was £818.20.Of course, this is now gonna wreck my head because I could, technically, afford the insurance, however I can't afford the bloody car!! So... question is, beat it?! Edited February 21, 2008 by Sarah_Diamond

Philplop
Go for the 12 months...Bonus accelerators aren't worth it in my opinion, they trap you to staying with that company, as other companies won't honour them.
Clairey Fairy
Im with diamond and mine is a bit more expensive than that...but im only ickle Im on the insurance hunt come april (So much faffing around i hate it)
Sarah_Diamond
smithy, is that tesco or tesco value? i'm with value now but my excess is stupidly high (on my laguna ) and you're only a week younger than me
lunalupi
Always go for the full 12 months - don't take any notce of these bonus accelerators, NCB for named drivers etc etc.And who have you tried? Sure it could be beaten, depending on the exact details of course...... Edited February 21, 2008 by lunalupi
Clairey Fairy
Ah yes, forgot to mention that at the time of applying i didnt know what an excess was I just noticed that the more i put in that box, the less my premium was...So i whacked in about £400 i think!! Sarah_Diamond
I used bonus accelerators with Norwich union 2 years ago with my loop, tesco value have accepted them now because norwich have confirmed mine since the renewal proof of no claims got lost in the post to tesco.I just checked admiral now (i know they're the same company but i though it might be worth a look) and it's only £10 cheaper with admiral.I don't understand car insurance, it's such a nightmare. I've been driving 4 years with 2 no claims and it's still quite expensive (although cheaper on a GTi than i expected)
lunalupi
Try some of the specialist companies as well as the big companies - Adrian Flux, HIC, CIS, Brentacre.Come renewal time I tend to set aside an hour or some to get quotes, and for ringing around between the best to see if they can do a deal - dropped another £200 off my quotes this year with a bit of work

Linz
I'm also female, 22, car parked in street, lowered, wheels - £350. And it was also the same last year (never went down this year! ) But I have my bf on it as a named driver which reduces it a bit. Think it was nearer £400 on my own.Edit to say ... that's with 2 years NCB. It's with Elephant. Edited February 21, 2008 by Linz
Joe
Bnus accelerators are fine to gain NCB quickly. We've both used them to get the years up and never had a problem switching company.
Sarah_Diamond
bloody hell, i need finance now! £536.55 with tesco..... and i've paid £430 on my laguna which it 10 years old!! the tesco one is to start the day after my birthday so i'd be 23.i'm gonna have a long hard think about all this, and maybe treat myself to a GTi later in the year! My only experience with a claim was with Tesco, and the speed and quality of the service I received from reporting it, to it being picked up, assessed, informing me, and sending the cheque was excellent! All done and dusted within about a week.

Clairey Fairy
I have a feeling Diamond will refuse to insure me next year...I had a scuff with a mini last year, got the repairs done by "funded repair" (whatever the hell that means i have no idea but i didnt have to pay anything!) and ive only just sent of the paperwork this morning Naughty Clairey seeing as she recieved the original letter in July last year....
