Pais340
Morning everyone, Idle test passedLambda sensor Passed at idle and fastThen it goes pear shape.Over 2500 revsCo max 30% It got a reading of 60%Hc max 200ppm it got 217ppm.Tigz helped me out with a engine and i also replced the throttle body(idling problems).Car runs smooth no smoke, perfect starts cold or hot, all perfect.Vw remaped T/B no problem.New cat, new lambda, spark plugs, oil, filters, even a temperature Sensor. And then it fails the emissions test. Now this is the the report from VW, no faults come up, nothing not a glinch. Thus anyone have a clue because i have ran out of ideas.Clueless Edited October 16, 2007 by Pais340

cardaft
Does the car accelerate as it should, no loss in performance?Does it do well on fuel, any different to before you replaced the engine?
Pais340
Acceleration and desacceleration perfect.Fuel not sure and the difference in replacement is that it doesn't smoke any more and there aren't ticks in the engine.Any ideas??? Rich
if it hasn't been run in a while, rag it about a bit. Wear it in so to speak. it could be a busted cat, sounds like it to be honest. Rich
Pais340
I'm really considering the CAT is the problem.Because it's not an original CAT i purchased about 100 miles ago from Viking international.Has any one used other CAT's then the original and had any Problems? lupoluke
Scoff do you use a genuine vag com or a universal thing because i had mine read with the proper vagcom and it briught ann extra code up, than the others i had been using.
SC02 FFF
hey luke, its a proper vag com mate, ill put it on again, if my cat has gone via too much oil in engine. would i always notice a performance decrease ? think thats next on my list it was strange it went off for a little while when i re errected my breather pipe as that was bent, but it came back on, if that was clogged ( 1 way valve? ) would that cause a problem? running lean and cat bank 1 sorry to high jack, ! may help tho? :S thanks
Dubbprince
sounds to me like piston rings are worn.Mine failed MOT on the same, i took the engine apart and rebuilt the bottom end.
CasperGTI
like sanj said.... Could well be the rings starting to blowby. But you would notice a bit of smoke there. The cat is there for CO2 not hydrocarbons. Hydrocarbons are basically unburnt oil or fuel.Mine failed on the same thing, and thats becasue i have too much oil passing the rings. This could also be your problem. Or it could be your valve stem seals.John

SC02 FFF
who can do that? my exhuast isnt blowing, i have no smoke what so ever, only on cold days. and when the breather is covered the oil comes out of the dipstick pipe. doubt my pistons have gone or seals. its sounding like the day i brought it still also, just idles higher
SC02 FFF
pipe from TB to the sensor before the Charc cannister isnt broken, TB resealed. new lambdas few months ago geniune parts, new coolant sensor. injectors cleaned. things reset on Vag com. 99hjhm
Well, on vag-com you can check the air fuel ratio. Have you checked changed the air filter, stupid question! Have you aligned the throttle body on VAG-COM to try and lower the idle speed, or tried ecu adaption on channel 00.
CasperGTI
The lupo pre cat lambada is a wideband unit, so it will control the air fuel mix anyway. Its only when one of the sensors goes tits up that it cant control it propperly. Dont think its scoffs problem.scoff, do you have your fault codes to hand?John
SC02 FFF
Long Term Fuel Trim Additive Air Bank 1: Range 1: Systemtoo leanmain Cat effiency bank 1 below threshold i have it booked in for next tues, but would like to try and fix it before then, would going to a mot place and getting the emissions tested to see if my cats working be a good idea?thanks guys!
