Today I saw an old Mini with a sticker in the back "I'd rather push my Mini than drive a BMW" What a complete cock. I'd rather drive any functioning car than push a Mini. I wish I'd seen him pushing it as I drove past and laughed.

Old Minis weren't cool before BMWs refined Rover version came out. They were overpriced, underspecced, slow, unreliable, rust prone, cramped, uncomfortable, thirsty, polluting, surprisingly expensive to maintain, nasty dealers, bouncy, afraid of the rain, crap braked, what's not working this week cars.

Yes you can spend on them, I owned two, loved them, hated them.

i regularly push my mini, but id definetly swap it for a BMW one at the drop of a hat.

and heres a stereotype iv noticed- what grannies drive today, boy-racers rant about tomorrow.

corsa's, fiesta's, 106's were all popular motability cars when new. now every McDonalds carpark is graced with them all kitted up

Receptionists and Ford Ka's for example. smile.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Precisely!

There are two 2 Ka-owning receptionists at our place (though I think one has just traded up to a new mini wacko.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="wacko.gif" /> ).

I'm just going on the majority I see. I did know a 17 year old with one, but you get to notice them more when you fall asleep behind the wheel when going round a corner behind a Micra avec old person.

Phew. Long sentence

I know someone who fell asleep at the wheel of a micra. He was only 18 years old too!

In my experience older ex-army types used to buy Daewoo's as they were a fantastic bargain, they come with three years AA cover for chrissakes!

It was useless trying to point out they were crap old vauxhalls. Like trying to argue with a Jehovahs witness.

Honda Civic. Granny chariot becomes the Asians fave. The Type-R just short circuits the timeline.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind BMW's I just think there are better cars for your money with the base models, but people buy them anyway for the badge!

too right, theres a woman who parks near where i do when am on an early shift, and shes bought a bmw m3 little thing - and ya can see its base model, from the rusting steel wheels and that its got no central locking - and you just think that she could have bought something far better for her money...

I'd have expected that from a 20-something, but not someone of your vintage. Whilst I can see the appeal of the Bini, I just don't think it should have been given the same name. Same with the Beetle. And numerous others (including my 75 I guess!). And I know we all look through rose-tinted glasses at our past. I had 3 minis and each of them were pretty disasterous, yet certainly 2 of them provided me with some of my most fun times. In fact, I've generally found that the worse the car, the more I enjoyed them! The Lupo was probably the biggest exception to that rule (ie it was a cracking car, that I enjoyed thoroughly).

Um, am I missing the point there (as in, is it falsely badged up as an M3?), or does that statement contradict itself?!

any ideas on who drives an alfa 166???

I think if you brought it down to scientific study you'd probably find out that nobody does.

However I think you'd find smart looking middle aged Italian captains of industry owning them, pounding down the autostrada, smoking and talking enthusiastically on the phone while on their way to Lake Como to spend the weekend with their 21 year old model girl friend.

This is REALLY freeky! I was just having a conversation with my house mate, last night, about the crappest car on the road, and we came up with the X90! I hadn't even seen this thread! No lie! Very Funny! laugh.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Now that would be the life.

I've just had a go in a 200hp Vito CDi, that white van man cliché just took on a new dimension.

It does 0-60 mph in 8 seconds!

There were a few annoyed BMW and Audi drivers on the M60 yesterday! Automatic as standard means you can hold the Sun or a bacon sarnie with ease. It's got all the handling trickery so it drove with ease, just point and squirt. The only moan is that the centre console is very high and the volume knob for the stereo seemed a long way away, like the new Sprinter. But if your in one all day every day, you'd really enjoy one.

Not the same girl or car, but I've just watched a girl drive right into a hedge. She was parking, and for reasons known only to her she didn't stop while pulling into the space. Shes damn lucky she wasn't parking into a space where theres a row of cars infront!

This Uni car park is full of comedy. smile.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Lets see if the theory works that you can work out what a person does for a living from there car.

I`ll list a few cars and see what jobs you come up with. All these cars are from people I know. You could also guess what type of person they are to see if that works as well.

Here goes:

Person one owns a Toyota 4-runner 3ltr diesel truck (m-reg) and a Toyota Supra 3ltr (m-reg import)

Person two has owned the following cars, Fiesta 1.4 (m-reg), Fiesta xr2i (m-reg I think) and if currently driving a Toyota Starlet 1.3 sr (t-reg)

Person three has driven a Volvo 440(n-reg), Volvo s40(t-reg) and is currently driving a Volkswagen Passat 1.9tdi (V-reg)

Person four has driven Volkswagen polo then a m-reg Ford escort since new (still runs it)

Person five has drives an Alfa Romeo GT & a Landrover freelander

See if you can guess any of there jobs correctly or a character trait. biggrin.gif style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
