mcrdave
Haven't bought the set yet but I was wondering if anyone knows the best place to get them fitted? Would i need a vw specialist like 'Awesome GTI' near warrington or can any place do it?I visited the said place last weekend, looks quite a professional outfit, anyone else have any dealings with them?Any opinions or recommendations welcome! chris260
I don't live in the North West but have bought a lot of stuff from Awesome in the past, their service is always top quality so i'd expect their fitting to be to. The amount of time they've been around i've never heard anything bad about them.
DanGTI
where abouts in the northwest are you? It doesnt need to be a VW specialist, fitting springs is an easy job unless the cars quite old and everythings siezed.
mcrdave
Hey Dan, I'm in Manchester. The GTi's less than a year old so shouldn't be any probs with seizing parts etc...Still trying to find the best price for the springs, saw some on the german ebay but i'm still a bit dubious about buying from overseas!Anyone know the best (cheapest) place for them?cheers guys

As for fitting, most big chains won't fit parts they haven't supplied so try your local independent, they're not a lot of work to fit, and garages have the aid of ramps and air tools etc so should take no time. tshirt2k
You could always buy some spring compressors and do it yourself. They are quite cheap. Hardest part is gettin a spanner to fit the nut inside the top mount. What has everyone else used to undo this? cos it needs to be a thin walled spanner/socket. Tigz™
Used a standard ring spanner on the large top nut, and a smaller spanner on the threaded top section.Easy piesy.Fiorst time I fitted springs and shocks it took about 5 hours because Id not done it before.Took me less than an hour to remove and refit the coiloevrs this last time.Defo try it yourself. Its not difficult. tshirt2k
I'm talking about the nut that is recessed into the rubber top mount! Ring spanner? unless the gti is slightly different. It seemed as if VW wanted to to stop people changing susp so they could use a "special tool".I managed to use a socket but prob was the thread was too long a went through the ratchet hole. I think. Was a long time ago now.Someone needs to put up a 'How to' so i can compare notes. style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
Tigz™
Oh yes lol sorry, thought you ment to remove from the car!Yes, struggled with a socket and a pair of mole grips instead of a ratchet.Think Ross had a special toold for doing it when my coilovers were first fitted? dazraz_uk
As far as fitting goes there's a garage called KDM down Atlantic Street in Broadheath/Altrincham they are fairly cheap at ÂŁ25 an hour last time i had some work done there, give them a call and see what they quote youKDM MotortechUnit 4, Arctic House, Atlantic St, Broadheath, Altrincham, Cheshire WA14 5BN Tel: 0161 928 3777 Edited October 13, 2005 by dazraz_uk

tshirt2k
But you still have to hold the thead/nut at the top otherwise it will spin!
