  1. From the NSRA Website: "With reference to the recommendations raised by The Consultation on Review of Inspection Procedures of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) and Driver and Licensing Northern Ireland ( DVLNI) of April 2004 we feel that points have been raised and people /businesses affected that would have not felt a need to input into the original document. As such we feel that further consultation should take place and almost certainly a Regulatory Impact Assessment will be required based on the points raised in our response document. It appears that the far reaching effects and impact upon businesses have not been considered as the whole car modifying scene consists of somewhere in the region of 1-2,000,000 people with a minimum annual turnover of approx £2000,000,000 in parts alone. This figure is based on a very conservative £2000 pa spend by 1,000,000 people and this disregards any costs for labour, insurance, VAT, import duties etc. There is also a large vehicle import market both directly by businesses and, more and more in this computer age by individuals themselves, from vehicles to parts to restore and modify. There are also the businesses involved in shipping these items to be considered. Our initial figures are based on the audited circulation of related magazines and these show sales of £98,000,000 per annum for all Automotive based magazines with half of those relating to the Modified market. Total monthly magazine sales are just under 1,800,000 and the marketing divisions always work on the basis that at least 2 people read every copy sold. 3. I'm up for that idea, Sheffield's ok but Nottingham is much better for Me/SWMBO, as it's 15/20mins away, plenty of places to meet up too, who's up for organising a meet then...
  4. Wolfie, ala citizen smith, VW=peoples car, and Wolfie gives "Power to the people!".... Logical really. My Corrado is the Great white shark, (fear and loathing in Las Vegas/Kirkby-in-Ashfield) and the Wife's Loop is Baby blue (she's a Dylan fan)....
  5. You should look north of Nottingham, we've got 2 Lupo GTi's, but nobody ever spots us...
  6. I refer you to a song by the Beatles, Taxman...... " It's 1 for you 19 for me" or the Talking heads, "Same as it ever was, same as it ever was"......

  8. It's quite simple Nicki, nicotine is considered (by some experts) to be some 50 times more addictive than heroin... and it's legally available, the only differences between these drugs is that heroin can kill you quickly and is illegal....

Thanks peeps, tho' I should point out that it's also the missus (Blue raven) birthday too... Hope this wins me extra brownie points style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> Also 1st wedding anniversary too...
  10. Yes Nicki, I have considered this point, but the overall picture that I was trying to paint was that the government is like a junkie, it has become used to picking on easy targets for its revenue fix, after all if you believe that all our road tax and fuel tax revenue goes into maintaining the road infrastructure, Britain would have the best roads in this part of the galaxy, not just the planet, and anyway until a few years ago I liked to think that we lived in free country, not being told where and what we can or can't consume. Frank Zappa, when asked by an interviewer why he smoked said, " I regard these paper tubes and black water as food, of a kind, but Californians seem to think that by banning these paper tubes, they'll live forever". No one here gets out alive..... style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />
  11. Having smoked for 30+ years tobacco (and herbal additives) I find that the current attitude of the government to be completely hypocritical, they want it both ways, to make smokers pariahs and responsible for all bronchial diseases and yet willingly grab as much tax revenue from us as humanly possible. Here's a thought, how about costing the REAL cost of alcohol related diseases and behavioural problems and see if these match the cost to the economy that smoking does. Having worked at the sharp end of the NHS for many years, I've seen many people die of both smoking and alcohol related illnesses, but I've only been threatened or attacked by drunks, NEVER smokers, 'cos smoking kills slowly, alcohol can make you a killer, either in a car or a fight.... Rant over.... style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":angry2:" border="0" alt="angry.gif" /> 69 dude style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

  14. The really sad thing about this is that We (the brits) Invented this method of transport in the 60's and with the right investment could have had a superb network of maglev trains that would have been the envy of the rest of the world, but most politicians are sooo myopic they can't see further than the next election.... Kudos to the Japanese railways tho' for making it work so well.... Just another example of a good british idea implemented by another more visionary nation...
