  1. i reciently changed mine, i used the best oil money could buy, castrol Syntrans Transaxle Gearbox 75W90 certainly wouldnt put anything cheep in it, you need, 3 litres, fill till it overflows,
  2. i did my input shaft seal the other day, a fecker of a job, gearbox out split the box and new seal, seal was a tenner, 150 for this job is a bargin for sure. or it could be the box failing ie a hole in the bell housing, is the clutch slipping?
  3. i used to visit the casrtol Rnd research centre a couple of times a month, the most impressive pace ive ever brrn to, they had every type of engine on a test bed doing long term tests, strip down checking for wear ect i only buy castrol oil now
  4. right, its quite simple car on jackstands first check the two 13mm bolts that hold the linkage mechnisum to the box are nice and tight. then loosen the two nuts and bolts on the gear linkages. position the gear knob inbetween 1st and 2nd then go and tighten up the two nuts and bolts so they are in the middle position of their slots check gears, they should be neary there, the afjuster that goes up/down vertically the one you can only see from the underneath adjust that one if your reverse is way out just a case of tweeking it at least check the gear oil level, or at best change it.
  5. i dont think mot testers are goint to start removing every dash and check ever bulb and led's are fully functioning.
  6. a warning light with the bulb removed will pass for sure.
  7. james dont put veg oil in it wil kill your fuel pump, you need to do a few mods like fitting a heat exchanger and switchover valve first, so when engine is hot you run on veg oil, i ran a few cars on veg oil, to be honest making biodiedel is the way to go
  8. yer what makes it worse was the tossers smashed both windows c's, at least they didnt smash the windscreen as its brand new
  9. hi, just wondering is (im sure it is), the lupo and arosa passenger and drivers windows are the same from 99> as i have to replace both after a breakin thanks
  10. no the oil wil be dark, check it you have a dipstick look at it
  11. thats gear oil for sure, engine oil would be darker, easy to check look at the colour of the engine oil. my guess its 1 of two seals, gearbox selector shaft seal, easy fix with box in, you will have to drain the oil first or the input shaft seal (just done mine) box out, then you have to split the box to change the seal. or the box has failed and theres a hole in the bellhousing, gears would be chrunching/grinding/not selecting or driveshaft seals.
  12. im after drivers and passengers windows if you still have them? total cost thanks
  13. ive got my gearbox out after an oil leak, they leak from either when they fail, badly a hole occurs inside the bell housing - new box or gear selector shaft seal, 4 quid ebay can be done with gearbox in. or input shaft seal box out there is a half moon cutout on the bottom of bellhousing oil leaks from there, box out.
  14. you have to lock off the gear knob, then there is another lock off point at the box you could try to ease up the linkage at the box with silicon sealant first
  15. just wondering if anybody knows how to adjust idle on a 1.7sdi i think thery are electronic fuel pumps just wondering if they can be adjusted manually? cheers
  16. yes sure you could remove the plate if it causes problems or fails the mot for immisions ect but to be honest ive never had or heard of problems with blanking off the egr valve, who in their right mind would want to exaust gases recycled bonkers. its simply a plate with two holes on it blanking the hole after the egr valve, find your egr valve which is attached to the right of the air box unbolt it from air box you will notice a very thin metal gasket, its the same as this but with no hole. if you want one made contact me or make one yourself out of thin 1mm or less plate easy peasy
  17. yes very easy to do, you really need to clean all the muck out the airbox first, then blank it off after the valve, like i said earlier, i could be persuaded to knock up another blanking plate
  18. glow plugs, they are basically mini heaters that are in the cylinder, when you turn on the ignition they heat up and aid the combustion when the cylinder is cold. to test them use a multimeter they buz out in the single figure ohms.
  19. where in the car are the glow pipes?
  20. if james is really serious about blocking off the valve, i can be peswaded to knock up another blanking plate up
  21. there are many benfits from blocking off the egr valve, all the diesel cars ive owned first thing i do is block off the egr valve and spend hours cleaning up the oil and dirt built up assosiated with the build up of the recirculating exaust gasses. ive never had any problems with immisions failing mots, or ever heard anyone failing mots after blocking it off. just google blocking off egr valve you will find its a very standard and popular thing you can do to a diesel to improve it. i made a blanking plate to block my sdi off after the valve, it does seem to run better and rev more freely, and there will be for sure no egr or oil build up block it off!!!
  22. yes id check the thermostat, water pumps mainy go on high milage, thats not to say it hasnt gone though
  23. best way to test your thermostat put it in a pan of water boil should pop open at 80 ish c. water comming out usually thermostat, maby water pump but youve got low milage should be ok, id whip off the head and start there,
