TDi - what to look for

Recommended Posts

Hi there!

We have previously had a 1.0 and a 1.4 openair, and currently own a SDi, but looking to enter the world of TDi.

In addition to the usual Lupo ‘things to look for’, is there anything specific to look for on a TDi?

TIA

nothing beyond the usual.

stiff gearbox, no pedalbox issues as hydro clutch.

Check it goes smoothly into 3rd gear with no crunches.

Do several quick 2-3rd shifts to be sure

Again gearbox synchros can fail especially around 3rd gear in both directions, manageable indefinitely, but not as nice as a properly functioning box, more likely to happen if the engine has been tweaked as 3rd gear is the cars overtaking gear. Arosa TDI interiors can be crap so look for one from a Sport model

Seems that it’s just bushes / syncro’s on the box then, and a well serviced engine is good as gold :)

cheers folks

Easy cheap remaps and plenty of potential for more power too. That with £30 tax, what's not to like.

* thread resurrection *

So, picked up a very tidy little tdi at the weekend. What a great little motor!

My daughter has a SDi, son now has a tdi, we’ve already been through a 1.0 and a 1.4 (open air), so we (I!) just need a gti for the full set :D
