Mike_M
Quick update. The car has been making a mad squeaking noise all the time and was starting to think my alternator was on the way out or something. After a closer inspection I narrowed the noise down and it seems my alternator belt is an original item from when it was built so decided to change it first for a cost of £8.34 trade from VW before moving onto the more expensive tensioner as the next stage.A quick overview of what I did:Jacked her upTook the under pan off and jumped into my pit to look upUsed a 16mm socket on the tensioner and turned clockwise to release the beltand removed the belt which was very shiney/polished with wear. Here are the belts near each other (old shiney to the left and new matt one to the right)new belt onNew belt is now on and all squeaky noises have disappeared so assume the belt was loosing a little grip and was stretched over time as well as perishing with age

one litre wonder ;)
just be careful mike because how little a alt belt costs why would anyone not change it at the same as the timing belt ...
Mike_M
just be careful mike because how little a alt belt costs why would anyone not change it at the same as the timing belt ...Because I had never asked for it to be done by the garage when the cambelt/waterpump was done, due to it having been fine back then (3 years ago) a simple overlook
Mike_M
I crafted my garage door opener into my console switch panel. Got a mini switch that illuminates andreverse mounted it behind a blank panel switch and wired it into my garage door opener to try and get an OEM look. The switch also lights up and adjusts in brightness with the rest of the instrument cluster lights ATTEMPT 1:ATTEMPT 2:Night shot Edited March 15, 2009 by Mike_M

Mike_M
Well been busy the last few days with any spare time I have with my seats.I had the rear Recaro cloths that matched my fronts for ages and was going to get them trimmed but was having issues with trimmers and also the cost side as have a wedding costs too.Soooooooooooo.........I borrowed a sewing machine and got busy myself Unstitched the parts that needed replacing to create a replacement template as there were holes due to rear seat belt feeds on the Golf and they were 60:40.......used some of the excess cloth to sort the replacement parts.Excuse the mobile phone pic quality Shaping some of the foam to fitOne of the replacement parts onStarted to put it all back togetherand cleaned the car too
