Joti's Red GTI on Schmidt Modernlines

The one thing that really bugs me about the Lupo is the lack of a glovebox. Also the storage trays are so smooth that everything slides around in them when you drive!!!!

Bearing all this in mind, allowing for my somewhat retarded DIY skills coupled with a childhood raised on watching Blue Peter, I decided to embark on a "fix"!

First thing I did was buy a 3mm thick sheet of ribbed black rubber and cut inserts the same size as the dash trays:

These were then inserted into place and stuck down with clear silicone adhesive (I tried carpet spray glue initially, but the dash plastics just did not take to it):

Not a brilliant picture, but the rubber is now in. Also got an extra GTI badge for the interior:

Next, I got some black felt and cut it into the same width as the rubber:

Add a bit of fabric glue, fold, and voila:

Throw some crap in the trays......

Chuck on the felt and BINGO - Stealth Glovebox

I know it's not the most elegant design, but believe me, it does the job and nothing slides about any more.

Just one more thing to put the "T" into GTI:

I ain't flyin' fool, and neither are my bits in the tray any more!!! :)

Innovative!

My 9n3 Polo has moulded ruber trays in the dash storage, shame they never done the same for the Lupo.

Will now be buying ribbed rubber stuff for my lupo. Ingenious idea.

Don't thank me, thank Blue Peter......... ;)

It's all been fine so far, though my coilies are not half as low as some...... Lock to lock is all good.

So............ I am getting the vinyl done tomorrow.

Too much time on my hands at work today has resulted in me going online and also ordering some sill kick plates, some new carpet mats and a keyring (yes, that's worthy of inclusion!)

Pics to follow tomorrow!!!

OK so the vinyl was done today and I'm really happy with it.

I don't expect people here to like it or to "get it" - this was something totally personal for myself.

Growing up watching F1, my childhood idol was Gilles Villeneuve. Many of you would probably not have heard of him (he was killed in a qualifying accident at the 1982 Belgian GP).

The number "27" is synonymous with Villeneuve and his helmet design was as below:

My car design is based on this.

At first I tried the rear with a blue/white beetle VW roundel, but I did not like it so took it off pretty swiftly!

I took my factory badge off, and spray painted the backing gloss black:

Much prefer the "normal" badge!

In between rear badges......

I like it mate :D

i like it :shades:

smooooooth :)

Well thanks guys, that's a (pleasant) surprise as I know most people don't like stripes... actually I don't even like them for the sake of just having them - if you know what I mean.

But that's not what this was all about.
