Just after an idea for what I could stick the rear badge on with. Had previously sprayed one and stuck it down with number plate pads but this didn't work too well. Anyone have a recommendation or know what the stuff vw use for them? Thanks all

I went into halfrauds for sticky pads, they directed me to the araldite, I ignored them & got some heavy duty velcro pads which I cut into strips. They're holding up rather well

Trim tape. Clean all serfaces with white spirit and make sure they're dry. Put the tape on the badge, pull off backing and put in place. Hold with pressure for a good couple of min's.

Mine have been on for a couple of years now...

Trim tape? I just spent half an hour putting adhesive pads on badge after cleaning both badge and boot with white spirit and it wouldn't stick. :/

Were they no. plate pads though? Cos they're terrible I tried that & realised it wasn't gonna work in all of 3 seconds lol

Sweet didn't know they existed tbh. Just out of interest how did you get the badge back together? Mine isn't quite flush but it might be because I cracked the outer silver bit when I took it apart, I've got another badge on the way so i'm gonna do it again better

That's the same that happened with my first one! I soldered the pins in the back then gently prized next to the pins with a screwdriver then it popped off. I've just stuck mine on as the chrome :)

Don't want to piss on anyones chips, But the rear badge 'split, paint, stick' job is really easy if you know what your doing.

I'll list what i did,

  1. Dental floss between the back of the badge and the boot lid.
  2. Turned the badge over to see multiple pins coming from the chrome trim, through the black trim and then heat molded over to stick them together.
  3. Drilled the heat molds off the pins (taking as little as possible off, To keep the length in the pins)
  4. Used '7447 scotch brite' to lightly remove the edge off the chrome, Then panel wiped the dust off.
  5. Then painted the badge using 'Auto smart Matt black'
  6. Refitted the badge back together, Super gluing up the pins on the chrome trim first, then left to set and then using my hot glue gun went over the back of the pins to make sure it was secure.
  7. Then i followed the VW outline on the back of the badge with some double sided foam tape.
