  1. No worries Koop, Glad to help on the rare occasion's im out of the workshop and on the mac! ha..
  2. Aux belt is self tensioned on the 1.0l dude, Not sure about others tho. Just a 13mm on the front that you turn anti clock wise to release the tension so you can remove/replace belt.
  3. Yeah, I didn't mean pour boiling hot water into the lock mechanism.. Just use the hot water to warm the key, so when it enters the lock it removes the frost!
  4. A instant fix for frozen door locks to boil the kettle and pour it onto a key! Works a treat, My locks frozen a couple of times this week.. I'll strip it and grease it all once the weather gets better haha!
  5. What does it feel like when engaging the various gears? Clutch feel alright? I don't know how mecanically minded and capable you are, But if you raise car Remove Aux belt. Remove OSF (drivers side) wheel. Remove wheel arch. Remove Cam belt covers. You'll be able to check the tension on the cam belt, Behind the tensioner there will be two pins coming from the tension and locate either side of a 10mm bolt, There should be another pin that's separate to the previous two, than rotates with the amount of tension on the belt, The correct amount of tension is applied once the single pin is positioned in between the other two. If you feel like having a look and want more help, Drop me a line and i'll help as best i can!
  6. I've recently got a set for my Lo'.. I live 2 minutes up the road from Lancs police HQ and pass it daily, Along with a multitude of marked and un-marked cars... Not one has pulled me or any off my mates for using them, And we all got them from the same eBay seller as above, They don't look that much different to the plastic plates in all honesty.
  7. Are you from Kirkham dude? I saw a black GTI there the other week, Looks similar to yours lol!
  8. How obvious is the noise.. Is it really loud, or just noticable? Noise from front or rear? Have you had a cam belt or aux belt changed recently? As it could be due being over tensioned. Checked engine oil level? Checked gear box + engine for oil leaks? Can you raise car to check for play in wheel bearings? Just a couple of things to narrow down the diagnosis.
  9. Don't want to piss on anyones chips, But the rear badge 'split, paint, stick' job is really easy if you know what your doing. I'll list what i did, Dental floss between the back of the badge and the boot lid. Turned the badge over to see multiple pins coming from the chrome trim, through the black trim and then heat molded over to stick them together. Drilled the heat molds off the pins (taking as little as possible off, To keep the length in the pins) Used '7447 scotch brite' to lightly remove the edge off the chrome, Then panel wiped the dust off. Then painted the badge using 'Auto smart Matt black' Refitted the badge back together, Super gluing up the pins on the chrome trim first, then left to set and then using my hot glue gun went over the back of the pins to make sure it was secure. Then i followed the VW outline on the back of the badge with some double sided foam tape. 10. Nope its defiantly a vacum hose, No idea what so ever as to where its meant to locate tho?
  11. I've recently (last wednesday) replaced the Cam, 8 Buckets, Cam Belt, Aux Belt, Thermostat, Oil + Filter, Coolant + x5 exhaust studs, nuts and manifold gasket. Due to the bucket being worn out by the cam, And the tappet coming into contact with the valve.. So i replaced them all as they were close to going too. The car runs like a new one, and drives alot better now. Anyway, When i was removing the air box I noticed two vacum hose's, One was attached to the left hand side of engine on a pipe and the other looked as if it was meant to attach behind the engine?.. It wasn't attached to anything, But i've no idea where it goes, Can anyone help? And another problem is, In the mornings It some times takes a quite a few cranks, i guess at 8-10 before it starts... Anyone know why this is? Maybe something to do with the above? And the last one, The car stalls quite easily and randomly when setting off in first.. normally when its cold. Is it just me or is my clutch on the way out?
  12. Just a guess, But has it had a front screen? We've had a few cars (in general) that have had screens put in by Gavin and his chums and they had to be re-bonded due water ingress.
  13. I had a bucket wear out on my 1.0e Lupo, Which nailed the Cam shaft, While i had it in pieces i fitted a new Cam and Aux belt, Thermostat, Coolant and oil change.. I knew its wasn't required, But for the sake of a few quid i've got piece of mind that it will be right for quite a while, Luckily being an LV3 apprentice technician I carried out all the work myself so no labour to pay apart from a subway! hahaha So basically what im saying is, Just pay out the little extra cash for the none vital parts and it will pay you back in the future!
  14. Yeah, they were £300 All bolts/adapters and 2 sets of spacers and all tyres on 6mm, shame i've just had to cough up for my insurance.. Or I would of had them, Looks like i missed out big time! haha
  15. Yeah, Might be getting a generator so i can take my electric jetwash too. So i could possibly make a plug so i can use the generator instead of a leisure battery providing its a quite one. Not heard of the underseat subs before?.. Heard of underseat speakers like on BMW's but not subs. And what the hells that meant to mean? If you don't like what you read then go away.. That reply helps no one. What sort of price range will i be looking at for a decent sound, Don't want a silly expensive one. Just one thats clear, crisp, and lets me play songs from my iPhone. Do you know much about setting up leisure batteries?.. A few mates have put them in van's they've converted to campers/race vans but i don't know how to plumb them up, I.e Series/parallel or on there own circuit etc...
