Ask VW? They should know if you give then your chassis number

Although do you really want to know that it was sat in a field for a year, then spanked round the dockyard for 2 months before being registered and sold? :tongueout:

There is a method using your VIN.

You can contact Volkswagen HQ and they will tell you when the car was manufacturered.

There is a description here.

Thanks for that, on se this maybee the case as theywhere selling them off at the time of orginal purchase.

It is quite common in the classic car world - eg

A guy bought a mk1 escort made in 1971 but sold in 1973. You never know with the goverment whether they will increase the age on classic vechiles - i hope so.

I remember in '89 standing watching them unload brand new VWs from a ferry in Ramsgate. Thrashing them all from cold off the ferry to the "parking lot". Absolute morons.

Majority of the cretins here weren't even born in 89!

Does that make you feel old ?

hmm, at my local motor-factors they used chassis numbers to get parts for my car. the chassis number matches up with a later type SDI engine but it turns out its the earlier type engine. i guess certain parts of my car were sitting around for a while, ive noticed some parts in my car are dated too. kinda interesting i guess
