  1. I will have one if you go ahead with them
  2. This was a Volkswagen UK press fleet car, it was featured in Volkswagen Driver Magazine in November 2002 I think.
  3. I know my dealer had trouble obtaining painted brake callipers last year. I spoke to Volkswagen Customer Service and they said they supply unpainted ones now. Luckily the painted ones are available outside of the main dealer network.
  4. Is it this badge or the red and black one from the earlier SE?
  5. It was last MOT'd on November 7 2014 with 130,125miles on the clock. That MOT expired in 2015 and it was not tested after that. I checked the DVLA vehicle detail site but they could not find the car. I checked further and found that J7UPO is now attached to a 2003 SEAT Arosa (formally HX53HBK).

    Lupo GTI

The 1.0e got traded in against the Sport. The salesman was only interested in the spec and the condition and didn't bother with a test drive. The dealer that took it had serviced it from new. They were pretty dreadful but being new to driving I didn't know much better, new brake pads every 20000miles that sort of thing. I didn't feel too bad as I had asked them about the whining gearbox and they dismissed it as normal. After they'd bought it they found the gearbox had cracked. A few years after I sold it I spotted it for sale on auto trader sporting a bright orange gear lever gaitor.

    Lupo GTI

I have been a member on here for a while but as I don't modify my car I never started a thread showing my car. I have owned a Lupo since I started driving in the year 2000. My first car was a Jazz Blue 1.0e which I had fitted with ABS, Front Fog Lights, Electric Windows Central Locking and a CD Player. The car was delivered in April 2000. I do not have many pictures for reasons that will be clearer later. A year after I took delivery of my Lupo my brother passed his driving test and after testing several cars decided that he too wanted a Lupo. However he had to out do me so he order a TDI Sport. I was very happy with my 1.0e but wanted a GTI. I saved for the five years that I owned the 1.0e until Volkswagen announced that the Lupo was to be replaced with the Fox. I wasn't impressed by the press images of the Fox and with the gearbox in the 1.0e was making alarming noises I decided that, even though I couldn't stretch to the GTI I wanted I would replace the Lupo with either a Polo or another Lupo. I tested the Polo but didn't like the steering so I decided that I would go for a Sport Lupo. This time I did not need to add many options, I only added Air Conditioning and a CD Autochanger. As I had wanted a Reflex Silver GTI my Sport was ordered in Silver. I was delivered in April 2005. After a month my brother who had sold his Sport in 2004 and bought a SMART decided that he could not tolerate the SMART any more and decided he wanted a new car... This car was even better than my first Lupo. I had changed my job in 2008 and was commuting from Solihull to Malton in North Yorkshire and so the mileage started to build up quickly. I decided to buy a new car to take a little of the pressure off my Lupo and in October 2009 I took delivery of a Scirocco. I decided to buy the Lupo a new registration number. It did not mean I stopped driving the Lupo I intended to keep the car for as long as I could. Until in March 2010 fate decided otherwise. I had driven to Yorkshire in the morning and had arrived with out any difficulty. The weather forecast was suggesting there could be heavy snowfall that week and my office is in a very remote area so I decided that I would fill up with fuel that night and on Tuesday morning I would leave the Lupo in one of the buildings at work and use the Land Rover that was used in the quarry. I had to drive to York for the nearest Shell station and as I made my way back to the hotel that night I was involved in an accident. A foreign HGV driver failed stop at a set of road works and hit the Lupo at a speed of between 40 and 50mph according to the accident investigator. Predictably the Lupo was destroyed. Along with my laptop and all pictures of my first and second Lupo. Insert polish out joke here. I woke up in hospital with little idea what had happened. I did think it was strange that the staff and patients on the ward all seemed to be Lupo fans. They kept saying "I have seen your car, you are really lucky" it was only after the police had been and someone showed me the paper that i realised the Lupo was not waiting for me outside the hospital. After leaving hospital I decided I wanted another Lupo but this time I was going to have a GTI. I wanted a late model GTI with Air Conditioning and maybe leather. I told myself I was flexible on colour and looked at several and dismissed them. Eventually I found a 2005 GTI on Pistonheads. I made arrangements and travelled to Wales to view the car. A deal was done and in September 2010 I collected my GTI. And like every other member on here as soon as I owned it I started the cleaning. I sent the car in to the body shop to have a few blemishes repaired and in December the car was returned. Two days later a Peugeot decided to use the Lupo instead of its brakes. Although this did not look too bad the car required nearly £2000 of repairs as the rear panel had to be replaced. Upon its return I decided to buy it a new registration number. The tag line from the advert seemed to be apt with my Lupo history! I have now owned the car for nearly five years and this is how it looks today.
  9. TDI was only available in Sport trim so it should have front fog lamps.
  10. Spotted around 1430 southbound M42 jct 4
  11. I am not sure if the earlier ones had the side airbags. I think (although happy to be corrected) that they were added at the facelift. The Arosa had things like remote locking that the Lupo Sport only featured as an option
  12. When the Lupo was tested by EuroNCAP Volkswagen had two cars tested for side impact. One was fitted with the side airbags, the other with out. The differences were very noticeable. http://www.euroncap.com/tests/vw_lupo_2000/27.aspx
  13. You could check on this government site: https://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/app/enquiry?execution=e1s1 You will need the registration number
  14. My last Lupo started doing this I asked the dealer and an upholsterer about a solution. Both came up with very similar answers. Apparently it is the sponge (foam or whatever the correct term is) over the years it gets worn and the fabric sinks in to it. The upholster's suggestion was to replace the foam or as a short term fix to strip the seat base and add more padding to fill the dent out. The dealer said replace the seat base foam.
  15. Spotted at BMW Benham Wolverhampton car park around 1pm
  16. On earlier sports the interiors where very bright, the fabric was called Tom. Black and red was the darkest the others where all based on grey cabins. You could fit later seats which where the same as the GTI. Take a look here: http://forums.clublupo.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=62657
  17. What is the issue with the gearbox a few people seem to have encountered problems. Has yours returned to Volkswagen for "product enhancement"?
  18. Spotted a lowered green "W" reg Lupo scooting around a traffic island heading towards Warwick Parkway this AM around 0730
  19. Bought my first in 2000, replaced that one in 2005 and then bought the current one in 2010
  20. Was looking at the up! Owners forum at a chap with a Take up! fitting upgraded speakers after delivery. Looked a little, er, involved!! How are you finding the up! day to day?
  21. Model specifications: http://forums.clublupo.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=62657
  22. Have you also wrapped the lower lip on your rear bumper? My mate has an up! White too his rear bumper is all white:
  23. Finally got to test an up! when my Lupo went in for its MOT. The model I tested was a High up! 1.0 75ps in black with a black interior. I have to say I was quite impressed, whilst the up! does not have the performance of my Lupo it is acceptable, you are not painfully aware of a lack of performance when driving, it is only if you glance at the speedometer that you realise you are not going that fast. In other areas the up! shows the benefit of a decade of development. The road tax on the Lupo is currently £210 (may be even higher now) the up! is free for the first year but thereafter is only £20. The fuel efficiency is improved too, without any real effort the up! returned over 50mpg whereas the Lupo will return around 40mpg if you are a little gentle. In terms of refinement the up! is actually very good. Around town there is very little engine noise, only if you rev the engine hard does a traditional three cylinder thrum enter the cabin. When it come to driving it was actually quite good fun to drive it grips very well and holds its line gamely. up! rides much better than the Lupo does. The cabin itself is very spacious for a car that is only a little longer than the Lupo. I think this has been achieved by making the engine bay tiny! The dashboard is similar to the Lupo in that it does not feature soft touch plastics but has a feeling of quality that comes from solidity and smart design. There are a few areas of cost saving. There is no foot rest for your clutch foot, there is the space for it. There is only one grab handle in the cabin for the front seat passenger and the passenger side sun visor is the only on with a vanity mirror and it does not have a cover. The passenger side electric window is not controllable from the drivers seat although this is hardly important. The door cards were the only thing I really did not like about the cabin, they are very hard shiny plastic, admittedly the effect was lessened over the up! in the showroom with a grey interior but even so they look and feel cheap. What was a little more concerning was the cabin ventilation. Although it was not a particularly hot day on the day I had the car I did try to cool the cabin with the air conditioning. The system is quieter than the ventilation system in the Lupo but you need to run the fan on a higher setting to cool the cabin. I wonder if the lack of central face level air vents is partly to blame for this. The other strange think was the lack of trim in between the front seats. There was plastic trim around the hand brake but the majority of the transmission tunnel was carpeted. I had been concerned about the quality of the sound system fitted to the up!, as standard they only have two speakers, the only other car I have driven with two speakers was a Ford Ka. Whilst it was not a system that audiophiles will rate particularly highly it performed well enough. I was not able to confirm if the car I had was fitted with the optional "sound pack" that adds an extra couple of speakers. I was interested to see the luggage compartment, When I opened the boot the split level floor gave the impression of a luggage compartment that was in fact smaller than the Lupo, but once dropped it would be slightly bigger than the Lupo. Having said that I have never really had an issue with the luggage space of the Lupo! Around the cabin there is more oddment storage space with a glove compartment, door bins and a centre console with a neat cup holder, its a simple plastic curve that flips over to create a cup holder. I have to say that the up! was impressive, it is vastly superior to the competition and I was surprised to discover that it had a little of the character that I like in the Lupo. Having said that, I am not sure I would part with the Lupo for one just yet. By way of comparison:
