project Arosa / budget dog

i had a busy weekend doing a certain clio :-X and a polo oil pump/cambelt, ibiza cupra sump, new rear caliper and brake bleed and transporter brakes and battery so i got nothing done on the arosa at all.

good news is a got some box section for free to weld in to mount my bucket seats.

bad news is the budget has taken another hit, on ebay again - i bought some old school mirrors, some cheapy 3 point harnesses plus the dizzy cap and rotor arm cost ~ £60 so i've now spent £751 so there's £249 left in the pot, i should have sold the rear belts today so that's £10 back in the kitty.

i've only got the head, stealth shelf, sttering wheel and 16v clocks left to sell and try and claw some cash back.

thank bud.

i got a bit done after work tonight, got my box section and chopped it down to size, then i positioned the seat where i wanted it to sit and marked it up -

arosa22210003.jpg

as the front support was higher than the rear i tacked a straight edge on to make sure the slope was even.

arosa22210004.jpg

now it was all where i wanted it i sanded the tunnel and inner sill ready, then welded them in

arosa22210007.jpg

arosa22210008.jpg

i also tacked it the brackets for the inner mount

arosa22210005.jpg

trial fitted the seat and they were bob on so i welded them in place

arosa22210006.jpg

trial fitted the seat again

arosa22210009.jpg

all was good so primered the welds

arosa22210012.jpg

the drivers side was done so repeated the same on the passenger side and trial fitted both seats

arosa22210013.jpg

arosa22210016.jpg

arosa22210014.jpg

arosa22210018.jpg

i'll trim all the carpet and plastics up tomorrow, paint the welds and bolt the seats in properly.

seems the purchase of the lupo bumpers have fallen through so i've been refunded £65. i'm back down to £686 now so i've sent my mate to gsf to get my new track rod ends, fresh oil and filter for her.

should be able to bolt the new subframe setup up soon, few more bits then bodywork can commence.

haha thanks chaps!

well got my bits from gsf and a couple of ebay parcels

arosa23210012.jpg

i set about refitting the carpet and trimmed it around the box section, also refitted the side trim

arosa23210001.jpg

arosa23210002.jpg

went and got some nuts and bolts from the shed

arosa23210003.jpg

and bolted the seats in

arosa23210005.jpg

i refitted the handbrake surround, gear lever surround, gaitor and knob and gave the drivers footwell a little hoover up

arosa23210006.jpg

arosa23210008.jpg

i did a swift oil and filter change and cleaned the plugs up too, i think i'm going to swap out the fuel pump with a 80k 16v one i have in my shed as i'm not sure how much life is left in the current one.

i only need some wishbone bushes and i can build up the new subframe/wishbones/rack/arb etc then get it bolted in.

i'll probably set about mounting the mirrors tomorrow.

thanks Jay,

todays spend was £50 + i've just bought some uprated oem bushes for £20 off ebay for the wishbones, i'll reveal what they are when i get them, they're alot tougher than stock arosa/lupo/polo 6n + 6n2 wishbone bushes but are not as hard as powerflex.

so up goes the total again to £756, looks like paint may get rattle can application at this rate!

well yesterday i didn't get much done, just mounted my mirrors as i had to rebuild a head for my mate.

arosa24210005.jpg

arosa24210004.jpg

arosa24210003.jpg

my new uprated wishbone bushes arrived today

arosa25210002.jpg

arosa25210005.jpg

so i set about building up the new subframe with all the new parts, one of the wishbones were in a sorry state and both bushes were shot! luckily i already had a spare wishbone in good nick in the shed.

arosa25210015.jpg

arosa25210014.jpg

arosa25210017.jpg

also had some new fron bushes hanging about so i popped them in too.

arosa25210006.jpg

pressed the new rear bushes in

arosa25210009.jpg

fitted the rack to the subframe with the new track rod ends, fitted the wishbones up with the new bottom ball joints gave it all a wipe over then fitted it up.

thanks LGG, i'm not 100% sold on them just yet.

Marcus - i'm hoping it will sit better when it's all the same colour and my shed isn't that big just having owned 70 cars and modified 85% of them means i have alot of parts kicking about from prior projects.

i tried my hand at retrimming my doorcard last night in faux leather, wasn't very successful but it's only for budget box so i'm not redoing it, hopefully the other side will turn out better now i have a better idea of how to do it.

thanks chaps, i'll have a look to see if i've got anymore cf sheet about - i found some yellow carbon kevlar sheet.

well i tested the faux leather and new glue on a spare bora a pillar i had,

arosa26210003.jpg

arosa26210001.jpg

i thought that was easy so cracked on with the door card - NOT easy

arosa26210007.jpg

arosa26210005.jpg

arosa26210004.jpg

so i clipped it in place

arosa26210012.jpg

also got some pics of the subframe and exhaust refitted (the white paint is to check for leaks in the weld)

today i was supposed to be getting a new MIG welder so i could finish my exhaust and crack on with the other bits, mine's ok but doesn't weld consistently. anyway got my mate with his van and went to get the new one, even after i told the bloke i'd be there saturday to pick it up he sold it yesterday!

so i came home and proceeded to finish my exhaust with my little mig, cut down an oval motorbike can and added some bends and a little tip to finish it off.

arosa27210008.jpg

while i was doing that my harnesses from ebay arrived so i fitted them in and gave it to my mate to give it a run round the block, he came back and said it was all good so i got a couple of pics while it was off the drive.

arosa27210001.jpg

arosa27210002.jpg

arosa27210003.jpg

arosa27210006.jpg

arosa27210005.jpg

arosa27210004.jpg

whilst rummaging in the shed recently i found an old solonoid off a ford granada automatic gearbox so i decided to put it to good use, i tested it was working then tacked it in place.

arosa27210012.jpg

i wired it into the rear wiper loom and it worked well so i yook the handle out

arosa27210011.jpg

then i made a plate up

arosa27210014.jpg

arosa27210015.jpg

welded it in

arosa27210017.jpg

and then ground the welds down
