Philplop
40k or 4 years, whichever is sooner.Originally it was 60k or 4 years, but VW changed the interval due to cases of tensioners wearing out before 60k.

marcusgrant
Cambelts should be done at 40k or 4 years, which ever is sooner. Thats on petrol models, I think its the same for diesel.Edit: Too slow! Edited November 4, 2009 by marcusgrant
Philplop
Well it should have had two cambelt changes in that time.
mat.m.
Its easy to check. Look for witness marks around and on bolt heads also take off the belt cover and take a look at the condition of the belts.I plan on doing mine myself in a few weeks. Nicki
My first one was at 50k/5 years as it was before they changed the interval. 2nd one is due next spring at the 90k/9 year service (although its only done 78k)
Arosa90
Mine gets changed every year no matter what amount of miles it has done, for the sake £12 it might aswell be done

lunalupi
Arosa90 either must do it him/herself, or it's not the cambelt being changed!Mine was done first at 50k (before I found out about the changed intervals) and has just had his second change at 85k, although he is approaching 12 years old now so technically should be having the third change next year! Will probably next be done at around 120k or at 15 years old, whichever is reached soonest... Edited November 8, 2009 by lunalupi
nfbr
TBF, on the 1.0 and 1.4 8v, It can be done in less than 45 minutes. However, to the person doing it for £12. You're obviously just changing the belt... It's not the belt that is the problem. It's the tensioner! I hope you are doing your tensioner at least once every 4 years
Silver!
40k or 4 years.Arosa was done at 26,??? miles @ 4 years and the GTi was done at 39,??? miles, which coincidentally was at it's 4 year service.
Arosa90
Mine costs £12 because my dad changes it, he doesnt change the tensioners everytime. He usually changes tensioners when they need it. The belt was near enough at breakiing point when i got it and i dont have the money to be getting it done at garages
