Using my iphone via Aux cassette tape adapter. But its nothing to do with that as it used to be fine, only recently has it changed...

Hi, I have a 2001 Lupo TDI 1.4 with the standard cassette tape radio and CD changer. However, lately all of a sudden the radio won't turn up loud. I like to listen to podcasts on long car journeys in which a lot of them need the volume cranking up a bit, it will turn up to a point and then the knob just wont do anything once it reaches that point. It's the same with music or just radio, it almost hits a limit but is still not really loud at all and barely goes above the volume of road noise on a motorway! When i go into the settings of the radio and go through the options when it comes to something like setting the "phone" volume, i can crank that right up without any problem at all, but as soon as it goes back to the main volume it just drops right down! I have removed the fuse for a couple of minutes and then put it back in to reset the unit but still have the same problem. It never used to do it and don't understand why it is now! Any ideas? Hi, I went and looked at a Lupo last week, im really interested in purchasing the car, however one thing that bothered me, the owner has had the arches rolled and flared, she said when she had it done the side of the front bumper, right next to the arch has popped out to the side about 1-2cm, she said the body shop that done her arches couldn't get the bumper to realign, Just wondering if anyone has had this problem? or if it will be a case of just loosening the bumper, to get the clips back in? Apologies in advance for this! But i need some help. Going to look at a Lupo TDI in the new year, i posted about it around a month ago now, however prices and stuff have changed... Basically to cut it short, she is asking roughly £1500 2001 Lupo TDI Coilovers Steffan BCW alloys 4 new tyres 130k on the clock Doesn't think its ever had a cambelt change! so she dropped the price down from £1700. She said body work is great apart from a small amount of rust on the boot handle. This is the information i have at the moment, does that price seem about right? i'll obviously see if i can get it a bit lower when i go and check it out but i just want a heads up really. Hope everyone has a great Christmas.

I've just been over on Edition38 and found myself looking at 6n and 6n2 polos, I really like them and think they can look super smart! Any one owned one? how does the 1.4 TDI compare to the lupo TDI?

Why are you so sure on spending £6k on a 75bhp lupo? you should look into a 1.4 sport (100bhp) or a 1.4 TDI, could spend £1k on a TDI and most likely have it faster than a 75bhp petrol you spend £6k on. But thats if your set on having a 1.4, if not get a GTI, Don't understand why you would limit yourself to a 1.4 75bhp.

Just a quick question for people with/previously owning a remapped TDI: I was talking to a friend today and he said, he talked to an ex owner of a remapped TDI... The owner said that the remap is awesome, makes the car so much more fun to drive however! He claimed that, due to the power, you end up changing gear constantly and said it was a nightmare to drive daily to work and back due to having to change gear all the time... I can kind of see this making sense, but figured i would ask on here before casting an opinion. So my question is, with the remap, obviously it increases the power by a large amount but does this substitute the "normal" every day driving? Thanks

i paid £380 for a refurbished one because i realised what a load of crap citroen are! i wasn't prepared to get another secondhand beam for that to just break as well! i'm selling the car in the new year as i have had enough, so i'm trying to do everything properly! i'm hoping that i can get it to a standard that the next owner won't have the problems i have had! the reason i don't do it myself is because i have NO idea where to start, if i did, like you do it appears then yeah i would do it myself, but i don't so i do what everyone else does and takes it to their local garage. It took the garage 4 hours to fit my first beam and then 3 hours to fit the refurbished one, so if you can do it in half an hour fare play to you. Some people are fine with french cars, two of my mates both have an older saxo, one of them is on 115k and has had no problems since he got it on 90k, the other has had a dodgy cv joint, that is it! I suppose it's always going to be the case with cars to if you get lucky and then if you don't, i was warned by many people about getting a saxo, but for the money i had, it seemed to be the best car i could afford, next i'm going to try VW, we shall see how that turns out ha! But anyway, on topic, i know exactly how it feels to get frustrated at throwing money at your car when you can hardly afford to, the way i look at it, you could sell it with the problems and buy another car and hope you wont get problems with that or you could fix the issues, then see how you feel, if you decide you don't want it, sell it for more money with no issues.

I have no one but my garage to fit the beam... so £120 is all i can do! It probably is the sensor, but it could be an aged cat like the diagnostic machine said the error is for. The gearstick isn't the linkages, i have been under the car and can see where the problem is, there is a rod which goes into the gearbox itself, that is where all the play is, i can't see any point in which i could get into look at it. When i say it has play in it, im talking, when its in gear i can move the stick about 2 inches when in gear.

At the moment, i own a saxo VTR, i've owned the car since February, my list of problems follow: Driveshaft needed replacing, £120 Arial leaking in water, fixed that myself, £10 Engine management light keeps coming on telling me i have an aged catalytic converter even though my emissions are fine. £40 to get it investigated to find nothing was wrong I had to replace my rear beam, £160 for the second hand beam, £130 to fit it, My exhaust literally just snapped, had to get it welded back on, £20 The secondhand rear beam went as well, had to get a new refurbished one £380 + £120 to fit. Plus usual stuff like brake discs being changed, MoT and full service, £200 At the moment my car drives with the engine management light on, something is dodgy with the gearbox, making the gear stick really floppy and horrible, it needs a cambelt changing soon and probably the clutch needs to be changed soon. It's a 2002, and had 60k on the clock, now on 70k. With problems as little as yours, i wouldn't really worry, try and figure it out yourself or just pay someone else to do it all for you.

Im going to be renewing the old insurance soon, At the moment I'm just about to finish a 10 month bonus accelerator deal with Admiral, however i want to shop around to see what other prices as i can get preferably for 12 month. However because i have done this "10 month bonus accelerator" which allows me to get a renewal after 10 months as if i have 1 years no claim bonus, if i changed insurance companies would i not be able to class that one years no claim? Admiral sent me a form for my renewal and on it, it clearly says i have on years no claims, could i use that as my proof? Cheers

Well i know now, if i did get the lenso i wouldn't try to play them off as bbs! i would probably try to make my own middle badges for them, just to make them something different, but i will keep an eye out on forums for some cheap wheels going

Do lenso's suck cus they are built like a ass or just because of the whole lenso image? any other wheels you could recommend? i saw a thread with the perfect banded steels i will go ask them how they got it to fit! so well! looked like it would have needed archs rolled and pulled though!

they are a tad under £500 but as you can see, get laughed at a lot! ha, i don't really understand why but if you have more than £500 to spend on wheels if it was me i would look into the BBS the lenso's are copying.

I'm just looking around at some wheels to get in the new year, originally i was thinking banded steels, but after reading in to it, it seems they are a bit of a slag to fit without arch work and so on. I'm not going to have the most amount of money in the world so im probably looking at a budget of £400/£500 max. The other option i am tempted by are the Lenso BSX in white: But equally i realise they get a lot of hate for being replicas. So opinions on the above or any advice on other wheels to look into would be much appreciated Cheers guys

Right basically for this lupo tdi im hoping to get hold of with 130k on the clock, i am thinking as long as it has been serviced and stuff it will be fine and keep on going, my old man on the other hand thinks a car with that amount of mileage would be stupid to buy.. he says he doesn't doubt the VW diesel engines but the parts which he would worry about are the clutch, driveshafts, cv joints general stuff like that. I need an argument to prove him wrong and to have faith in VW! what should i say ?

I have the best stories about driving tests! First time: I was confident in my ability to pass, i was driving really well throughout the test and near the end on the route back, a bus was at the side of the road letting people off, the bus puts its indicator on to pull out back onto the road, i brake and let him out, two cars behind me deciding to not be stuck behind a bus and a learner so overtake us both. I finish the test and get told i got 2 minors and a major for traffic awareness when i asked how i got the major he replied, you weren't aware of the traffic when you let the bus out, i replied if i didn't let the bus out i would have failed as well, he just looked at me and got out the car. Second time: I was driving fine throughout the test, came to a busy roundabout, a car is driving round with his indicator to come off onto the road i was waiting on, he starts to turn off, i start to move on, i check to make sure i know where he is again as he slaps his indicator off and quickly swerves back onto the roundabout, i slam on the breaks, the driver in the car put his hand up to say sorry. I failed for stopping over the white line at a roundabout. I said to the examiner if i didn't stop that guy would have crashed into me, and he replied "I'm not paid to argue my decisions" and stepped out the car. Third time: As i'm waiting in the room, now nervous as crap! hoping i don't fail again, i find out i have the same examiner as the last time, so straight away i think oh great i have failed. I drove like crap! worst i ever have! I passed. The first and second time i had my lesson in the afternoon around 3. I spoke to a friend who's dad is an examiner, he said you should always take your test in the morning, as certain test centres have a certain amount they can pass each day, if they have a day of good drivers, you have to obtain a perfect drive for them to pass you. Otherwise they will use any stupid excuse to fail you. So now with this knowledge i booked my third test early morning and passed even though i drove horribly. try to book your test in the morning! But apart from that, it really is just luck on the day, just make sure your fully prepared, if you are then you will pass unless you get some hard luck, if you fail its no big deal just book it up again and get back on it!

go for the 1.0L mate, insurance will sting you for the 1.4, no point spending most likely hundreds of pound to get more speed. save the money on insurance and get it lowered and so on. Best way is just do insurance quotes though

I'm not sure on common faults, so i will let someone else with more knowledge answer that one, apart from the common pedal box problem and gearbox's sometimes being dodgy. I would highly recommend a 1.0E lupo for your first car though! Some of your friends may boast they have faster cars, but they will be cheap crap cars! and the kind of speed they would have doesn't impress anyone over the age of 18. You are much better off getting a small engine car that saves you £££ on insurance and using that money to make the car yours!
