New iphone deals?

Well i have had mobiles for years but always had pay as you go, im tempted by the new iphone but its not available on P&G till november and to make use of the net etc it will cost at least £10-15 in bolt ons alone and i spend £10-20 a month on credit for my G600 so its near contract money

so today i went into the 02 shop and was told the usual £30,£35,£45 contracts and as i have a 3/4 full 80GB ipod classic im gonna need the 16GB upgrade at £59 and then £99 for the phone unless i went on the £45 and up contract, asked if i got anything for 4 of us in the house being with them for 5 years plus and 2 of them being on contracts and was told a blank NO :angry2:

so went in car phone wareouse and was told much the same although the girl was much nicer to deal with but again no deals etc

Am i missing something here? i expected no deals on its launch but surely now its been out over a month and is the 2nd generation there must be a deal? i have never brought a car at its first advertised price and believe theres always a deal to be done but i can only find it forsale in the above 2 places i tried and neither would budge, 02 being particularly rude with the attitude of "if you dont buy it son someone else will be in later today or tommorrow to do so"

cheers for any help and advice

They dont need to do offers on the iPhone, it sells itself!

And tbh, it isn't that great. It tries to fulfil every role, but falls short on all of them.

I wouldnt have one! People get them just to have the latest gadget!

I mean c'mon....2 megapixel camera with no video! How turd is that!!

i know litterally just read that on one of the american websites  2mg is beyond ****, my samsung g600 which i class as old now has a very good quality 5mgp, and having no video is very very dissapointing, apparently no flash either

quite surprsied how many BAD reviews there is on the internet to be honest, most from american sites admitedly but alot with genuine grievences to back it up

to be honest Rob nearly every site aggrees that it has the best web useage ability and software on any smartphone on the market, the phone is apparently very "basic" (ironick they call it 'iphone') , the sat nav isnt really sat nav just moving mapping software that isnt suited to helping you get somewhere on a car journey of any distance

Im not one to buy things just because there the latest out, although i did do that years and years ago at school when MP3 players first came over from abroad and i had a top spec MP3 player while everyone was showing off their sony walkman tape player :P

still want one though :lol: think im gonna go and bite the bullet tommorrow, cant believe i can sign up in store, get the phone and then still have to register the lovely person on i tunes before i can use it

Lol. Nothing to say really. Plenty of us on here (me included) have iPhone's and iPhone 3G's and think they're fantastic.

Saying that there's plenty of people who hate the iPhone, though I reckon people who say they dislike it haven't actually used one for a decent amount of time. Am I right Rob? ;)

Well yeah, granted I only had mine for two weeks before i sold it on again, and yes, it was quite good as a gimmick, but i couldn't really see it replacing my nokia full time. Texting was hard with the virtual keyboard, i kept hitting the wrong keys. I did like the zoom in and out on web pages, and the email interface was very readable, but it just didn't feel right for me. I did enjoy playing mahjong on it, and tap tap revenge, both pretty cool games.

The text interface was quite neat, like gmail's conversations, rather than a list of text messages. The lack of being able to dump mp3s straight on it, or use bluetooth to move things onto it or from it was a definate downer. It might have been a better gadget had I bothered to get the web bolt on with the o2 sim, but I couldn't justify the extra expense really and didn't want to get the phone jailbroken/unlocked.

The ipod bit was good, although was let down by not being able to plug proper headphones into the jack (I had the 1st gen iphone) so wasn't able to use it with the connects2 in the lupo, had to stick with the shuffle.

So yes, nice toy, but would i want one full time? Probably not. Especially not if i was locked into an 18 month contract on it.

assuming you have a 16gb version jon? any probs at all? i know you and nicki have them you seem the biggest fans on this site after looking through previous posts around launch time and also whats this i have read about havig it in white? 2 sites have said its only in apple stores though i swear i havent seen one of them stores?

thats the only thing that kinda puts me off rob i have never had a contract or finnance of any kind before and being locked into it for 18 months at £45 a month is a bit excessive but im bored of my G600 and always on tinterweb so figure this could suit me

I had the same views about the iPhone before I handed back my N95 8GB back and recieved the 8GB iPhone.

Yes there are issues, the Nokia was a better phone. No question, but as a lifestle tool the iPhone is unbeatable.

Constant Internet, countless applications. Regular updates, so should avoid the need to replace the phone every 6 months like I've been used to over the past 10 years.

I no longer miss the lake of MMS, I send emails to everyone now, the 100 texts I get each month hardly get used.

Not sure if I'll go for a 3G, I prefer my aluminium cases iPhone.

Do they have photo mesaging? one review i just watched said there pre release demo version they were testing didnt have but it was expected to be added by production time? if not surely means you cant just send a picture message to your mates etc? i know the interent on my G600 takes to long to load and costs too much so i never use it to check emails etc which would be the only ohter option

No, MMS is still not avlalible.

It's not a problem, if someone selnds you one you go to o2s website and save it your phone or computer.

I'm sure it will appear at some point, hopefully of the next software update.

The iPhone has in no Way been advertised as a Satnav device. It has GPS and Google maps yes, But its not satnav, and nobody ever said it was...

Be patient and wait for the release of "TomTom iPhone" software in the near future.

MMS is so 90s anyway, its all about email these days.

Don't read the reviews, go play with one in store, or find someone with one to show you the features and ask them how its changed how they do things. I know its completely changed how I email, use the internet and generally go about my day to day business.

Its only been out 4 weeks! The offers on the original iPhone took a good number of months to come out - and that was at the same time as everyone was anticipating the announcement of the next generation.

I've seen other phones be around for 6-9 months before discounts happen - Samsung's various touch screen toys over the last 2-3 years for example.

Also, as everyone has already pointed out - they are still exceptionally desirable - there are still a lot of people who've been trying to get hold of one for the last 4 weeks!

Lol. Nothing to say really. Plenty of us on here (me included) have iPhone's and iPhone 3G's and think they're fantastic.

I do actually love mine. Was at a wedding yesterday and my phone was the topic of conversation on & off for a good hour with everyone wanting to have a play with it as they'd either not seen one before or because they were still deciding if they wanted one or not. I've probably converted 4 people in the last 24 hours at least!

Well decided to bite the bullet and sign up for one today, went in car phone warehouse and having played with one for 15 minutes decided to have a 16GB one on £45 a month so he got the phone and we put my details in on the computer and account details etc, then my heart sank when he said "youve been declined"

i couldnt and still cant quite believe or understand it :( apparently even though the account that i was attaching it to has £3k in it which is more than enough to pay for the phone 3 times over he thinks i must have a bad credit rating and be high risk, doubtfull i think as i got confirmed on a mortgage last month for £51k with ease so £45 a month doesnt strike me as much outlay

i have now got to figure out a way round it and sort the problem out, especially to see if any credit hackers etc have attached something to me as i have never in my life been near overdraft or debt of any kind and now getting refused for something so trivial, he wanted to sign me up under mum and dads name and use my account details but i have never used my parents to get things before and refuse to start now

anyone else had similar problems?

http://www.experian.co.uk/creditreport/

That will give you an idea as to why you've been declined.

If you've recently moved, it could be something as simple as your house being blacklisted due to previous occupants rather than you.

Tried experian for my brother before and the report we got back was so basic its unreal, it was also meant to be a free trial version but he ended up getting charged £15

we havent moved in last 8 years, havent had any debt on any of us which is why we were so confused, i was so inbarrased it was unreal, all of a sudden the shop goes quite and you look like a dole scrounger trying to get a phone when the truth couldnt be more different, as dad said its so ironik that the first time i try to get any form of contract/finance i get refused

I've always found experian very useful. We've got a few clients who've used it over the years too.

The report itself is free for a trial period, then £4.99 per month thereafter (IIRC?) - you just have to make sure you cancel it before the trial run expires. Also, if you use some of the extra functions on there, you have to pay extra but they warn you before you click on anything.

After listening to Nicki i did a credit check and all seemed clean  , so sent it to nicki and she agreed same as me and said to ring 02 customer services just to check why it didnt go through but thought id go one better and as i had an hour free thought stuff it ill go in the 02 shop at the local shopping centre and see if i can get it there

went in and within 10 minutes walked out with a 16Gb on £45 tarriff, she saids it went straight through with no warnings or anything and credit expert confirmed there was nothing wrong with my report

so i have just rang that bloke up at car phone warehouse and gave him a right bollocking over the phone :P i was being nice at first but then he gave me the line of "maybe were a bit stricter on who we take on?" which really wound me up after never being refused for anything in my life untill i dealt with this twerp, and as its 02 who would be taking me on in the first place its complete nonsense

i can now be an iphone sales rep like Nicki and Jon and make apple even more money :roflmao: just charging it now so will have to leave it at home tonight before i get to see if i have made the right decission
